National Sorry Day at Willum Warrain

Today, members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community had the honour of attending the National Sorry Day event as part of Reconciliation Week at Willum Warrain.

We were privileged to meet Uncle Peter, his team, and other respected Elders of the Aboriginal community. The event was attended by more than 250 community members.

The day commenced with a traditional smoking ceremony, followed by powerful and heartfelt speeches from the Elders, reflecting on culture, history, resilience, and the ongoing journey of reconciliation.

The program concluded with a warm community BBQ, bringing everyone together in a spirit of unity, mutual respect, and friendship.

We proudly displayed our community banner, and our presence was warmly welcomed. Many attendees appreciated our gesture of solidarity and respect as we stood together to celebrate culture, resilience, and community spirit. It was a truly enriching and memorable experience.

We also had the opportunity to meet Mr. Paul Mercurio, State Member for Hastings, who recognised and appreciated our community’s engagement. Councillor Paul Pingiaro, Acting Mayor, also expressed his support and appreciation for our presence at the event.

Wassalam,
