The team here at John J McDiarmid & Sons had the opportunity to be apart of Henry James O’Farrells history by creating a new monument where he rests eternally.

“Henry James O’Farrell was the first person to attempt an assassination in Australia in 1868. His target? Prince Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh, the fourth child of Queen Victoria.”

Henry was imprisoned, tried and executed at Darlinghurst Gaol which has now been turned into an arts school. During the renovations, Simon a descendant of Henry & his partner Ron were able to get their hands on an original piece of sandstone from the Gaol which has now been transformed into the main part of this memorial. This sandstone piece was hand carved by one of our head masons - Darryl McDiarmid.

The team at JJM would like to thank Simon & his partner Ron with trusting us to bring their vision to life with creating this special memorial.

If you would like to read more about Henry J O’Farrell & his history - Simon has published his very own book about his ancestor. You can read more about it here: https://www.echopublishing.com.au/books/a-man-of-honour
