We are so grateful to Bishop Umbers for taking time out of his busy schedule to attend our Groundbreaking Ceremony, especially as he prepares for the 2028 International Eucharistic Congress in Sydney!

We will be keeping Bishop Umbers and the IEC planning team in our prayers!

Help us build our new home! Stage 1 of our monastery building project is currently 21.2% funded.

My name is Pan and I am one of the Sisters' Maremma Sheep dogs. I am almost 7 years old and was gifted to the Carmel a few years ago along with my brother, Finnigan. My breed is well known for their protective instincts so I am often kept with the sheep at night to protect the lambs from foxes. Although I love to receive affection from the Sisters, I never come when I am called! The Sisters tell me that stubbornness is a common Maremma trait....

One month later, we are still hearing about the many blessings showered upon those who attended our Groundbreaking Ceremony and Pontifical Mass!

We are so grateful to Mykola Cardinal Bychok for taking part in this special occasion in the history of our monastery. May God reward His Eminence abundantly for traveling all the way to Our Lady's little house here in Mathoura!

In the book of Kings, the Lord said to the Prophet Elijah: “Depart from here and turn eastward, and hide yourself by the brook Cherith, that is east of the Jordan. You shall drink from the brook, and I have commanded the ravens to feed you there.”

And so began the Carmelite quest for the heights and depths of contemplation!

But why did God command the ravens to feed Elijah?

We asked our Bishop Columba to explain.

My name is Snowy and I am one of the Sisters' Awassi milk sheep. My affectionate and gentle nature is a source of joy to the Sisters and I often follow them around the monastery paddocks as they work. Originating from the Holy Land, my breed is widely considered to be the sheep that Jesus refers to in the Gospels.

"I am the good shepherd. I know my sheep, and mine know me." John 10:14

Carmel of Jesus, Mary & Joseph

The Carmel of Jesus, Mary and Joseph is a Monastery of Discalced Carmelite Nuns, who are living out their calling to contemplative prayer — a life of solitude and sacrifice in communion with the Roman Catholic Church and approved by the Diocesan Bishop, the Most Reverend Columba Macbeth-Green OSPPE DD.

They follow the ancient custom of monastic enclosure, which means that they remain physically separate from the public by fences and grilles, as a symbol of their complete gift of self to Christ and his Church.

The Monastery is located at Mathoura, in the southern region of the Diocese of Wilcannia-Forbes in NSW, Australia.

The Nuns are grateful to all who have helped to establish the Monastery and they continue to pray especially for their benefactors and for the Diocese of Wilcannia-Forbes.
