Today is the feast day of St Barnabas, an early apostle and companion of St Paul.

He was born in Cypress into a family of Levites, the Jewish tribe designated for temple service. In his first recorded action, Joseph—his birth name—sold his possessions and laid the money at the feet of the apostles. This act of remarkable generosity defined his ministry.

The apostles named him Barnabas, meaning son of encouragement. Indeed he is known for encouraging early Christian communities to be steadfast in faith.

In the Acts of the Apostles, we read, ‘they sent Barnabas out to Antioch. There he was glad to see for himself that God had given grace, and he urged them all to remain faithful to the Lord with heartfelt devotion; for he was a good man, filled with the Holy Spirit and with faith’ (Acts 11:22–24).

St Barnabas, pray for us that we may be ready to proclaim Christ as you did, by word and deed, in all that we do.

Solemnity of the Sacred Heart

Lifted high on the cross, Christ gave his life for us, so much did he love us.
From his wounded side flowed blood and water, the fountain of sacramental life in the Church.
To his open Heart the Saviour invites everyone to draw water of joy from the springs of salvation. May our prayer this day draw us closer to Christ. May our hearts be filled with the blessings of the Lord's Sacred Heart.

Friday 12th June Solemnity of the Sacred Heart St Mary's Primary School Mass at 9.15am.

Corpus Christi Sunday or The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ

This weekend 6th/7th June we celebrate Corpus Christi Sunday which is usually known as the Eucharist. The children of our parish will share for the first time in the Eucharist next Sunday 14th June 2026 at the 9am Mass.

The earliest accounts of the Eucharist in the New Testament is in the First Letter of St. Paul to the Corinthians written, we also find them in Mark 14:22-25; Matthew 26:26-30 & Luke 22:14-20. We find references to the Eucharist as breaking of bread in Acts 2:42, 46 and 20:7-11. John’s gospel 6:22-58 has a detailed explanation given by Jesus to his disciples of what his flesh and blood meant.

Mount Buller Masses on Saturdays at 6.30pm will begin on the weekend of 13th/14th June.
