ing Church has a program that we thought might interest you. The program is known as MOPS which stands for “Mothers of Pre-schoolers”, and is designed for mothers with babies and children under school age. The program is run by mums who know that the first years of raising children offer that unique combination of pure fulfilment and utter frustration! We know that in this high stress period even the best of us at times feel inadequate, isolated, lonely, and exhausted! MOPS will be held every 2nd Monday during the school term. The Bargain Centre

This Easter, let us spread the word to all around. Easter is about celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ and God’s invitation to share in resurrection joy. What are you doing at Easter? Going away, attending a conference, or going to church? You are invited to join us in one of our Uniting Churches in the Mackay region. From Mirani in the Valley, to Sarina in the south, to Northside in the northern suburbs, to St Paul’s and Armitage in the city, there is a Uniting Church near you to which you are invited to attend. At one of our services, you can hear the Bible read, sing classic hymns and receive the message that: ‘if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything old has passed away; see, everything has become new!’ (2 Corinthians 5:17 NRSV). The first male disciples were afraid that the body of Jesus had been stolen and they returned to their homes. But two angels appeared to Mary and then Jesus appeared and called her by name; she hears his voice and recognises him. Jesus gives Mary the message to tell the other disciples of his resurrection and ascension, which she accepts and declares to them ‘I have seen the Lord’ (John 20:18 NRSV). As Mary was the first speaker of good news, let us spread the word to all around.

This Christmas, stop work, rest awhile, and turn to God. The good news of Jesus Christ, the Saviour of the world, is a message of great joy for everyone: for you and for me. This Christmas, find your local church, attend a Christmas service, hear the good news, give your heart to Jesus, and donate to a Christmas appeal. The Journey to Bethlehem movie is showing in cinemas now. The miracle of the survival of Jesus Christ, the divine Son of God, shows us God’s determination to be with us in life’s struggles. The birth of Jesus Christ is an encouragement to worship the God who ‘became flesh and dwelt among us’ (John 1:14) and to extend a helping hand to the vulnerable people of the world. People are dying in many wore-torn parts of the world. At Christmas time in 1949, the Rev. Frank Byatt, a Methodist Minister, encouraged those gathered around his meal table to give the cost of a Christmas dinner to help those recovering from the Second World War. Each year, through the National Council of Churches, for almost 75 years since then, Christian people raise more than $1.8 million for overseas aid and development. You can give at your local church or online at https://christmasbowl.actforpeace.org.au/donate.

On Pentecost Sunday 28 May and as part of Chaplaincy Week, St Paul's and Armitage Uniting Churches welcomed three school chaplains and their supporters to speak at worship services: Rob Ruge, Victoria Park State School, and our very own church members, from St Paul's, Ange Clarke, Homebush and Dundula State Schools, and from Calen, Alun Tunnah, Calen District State College, which boasts the irrepresible motto: 'second to none.' Let's pray for our chaplains, for new people to supply several vacancies, and that we might support our chaplains generously with our time, talents and treasure: 'for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.'

Thanks for celebrating Chappy week with us St Paul's Uniting Church !!

MACKAY CHURCHES TOGETHER CALL TO PRAYER AFTER RECENT FLOODING - Please see on the Mackay Churches Together (MCT) page the call to prayer and quote from Philippians 4:6-7 issued on Monday 16 January from Aux Lt David Dobbie of the Salvation Army, MCT's representative on the Mackay Regional Council Local Disaster Management Group. David called for prayer, especially for farmers in the Pioneer Valley area likely to be heavily affected by the recent flooding. From the latest technology, news reports and community collaboration, we now know much more about the impact of the flooding. David's call for prayer is still relevant as the recovery effort is expected to take many weeks and months...May God richly bless us as we calmly respond to another severe weather event.

Update from Aux Lt Dave Dobbie
Hi Amanda, I'm just checking in to keep you and the Mackay Churches Together committee aware of the current situation with the weather event that we're experiencing.

Please note that our council's LDMG briefing today advised that we are now at 'Stand Up' classification due to the expectation of 200-400mls of rain west of Mackay overnight. The information that we have available to us indicates that there shouldn't be any threat to residential property however there is uncertainty as the water continues to move towards the coast and meets up with the high tide tomorrow morning. They are expecting that there will be some streets towards the southern end of the CBD that may have water backing up due to the high tide at around 7am.
As the church community, I would encourage that we continue to pray for our farmers who will be considerably impacted by this excessive rain and also any residents who may experience damage to property.
I'd also encourage our church communities and people who are able, to reach out to neighbours, elderly folk in our churches, and other community members to make sure they are ok.
There's been a lot of social media hype over the last few days and we need to remain calm and prepared when these events happen. If anyone is looking for some light reading and comfort through these rainy days have a read through Philippians 4:6&7.
Our Salvation Army Emergency Services (SAES) vehicle and team are ready to be deployed if necessary and we'll reach out to MCT if any further needs arise.
God Bless,
Dave
