For further reflection / discussion on this Sunday’s sermon:
On this day of Pentecost we are considering how we have been trained for leadership, trained to look after ourselves and to love one another.
Consider how you have graduated from primary school, remember the lessons they taught you which prepared you for TAFE of Highschool.
Consider how your Sunday school teachers prepared you to understand what happens in Sunday worship.
In the Old testament ‘prophecy’ was no mere prediction of rain and sunshine. The prophets were teachers, guide, protectors of God’s people.
This week encourage you to follow their example, dwell of the words of the lord and remind others of God’s mercy, how he has been faithful to his people. Show them exampled of his forgiveness and salvation.

As we come to the conclusion of the season of Easter we remember that God never abandons his children.
Sure, Jusus departed from us when he died.
Sure, Jesus departed from us when he ascended.
But God is still with us. The Holy Spirit of God now protects, teaches, comforts, nurtures, sanctifies God’s children.

Roads, fortresses, buildings, and homes.
These are images that are often used in scripture, for all these things we need rocks and stones. We need a firm foundation on which to build, not a swamp or sandy beach. We need stability. Surely the lord our God is a God of order and not of chaos (1 Cor 14:26-40).
He knows we need something stable, someone to depend on, someone who can protect. Consider this week all the things upon which you rely. What is stable in your life?
As you reflect on the ways that God uses these to bless you; Revise your small catechism examining the explanation of the first part of the creed and the seventh petition of the Lord’s prayer.

Palm Sunday Celebrates Christ’s triumphant entry into Jerusalem. Riding like a king.
Passion Sunday celebrates the entirety of Easter and gives us a taste of the rest of Holy week. Which is especially appreciated for those who go away from home the whole easter long weekend.
As we begin this Holy week, I encourage you to review your small catechisms; Remember what you have been taught, how you have been discipled. Confirm once again your faith in God.

For further reflection / discussion on this Sunday’s sermon:
This week in Lent I encourage you to reflect on your past and prepare for the future.
What was your life like before baptism? What changed when you got to know some Christians?
How have you previously engaged with other churches? What do you know about the Christians who worship in other denominations? While on the surface our services may appear different, and the official teachings sound unusual. What has been you experience in praying and service with Christians from different backgrounds?

In the future how do you want to engage with Christians from other corners of God’s Church? Do you need to learn more about their differences and our similarities?
In what ways do you think you can serve God with other Christians?

For further reflection / discussion on this Sunday’s sermon:
In 1 Samuel 16, we hear how one Shepherd, the priest Samuel, anoints a literal shepherd, to be the shepherd of the nation of Israel. In Latin a shepherd is called ‘pastor’ and this is the title we give the leaders of congregations today.
Given the examples of Samuel, Saul, & David what would you say the important work of a pastor is?
What might you consider to be the style of their leadership, or shepherding of God’s flock?
In what ways are you yourself a shepherd of God’s people? How are you helping the Christians around you this week?

For further reflection / discussion on this Sunday’s sermon:
As we think about Moses, how he reluctantly served the Lord his God and yet achieved great things. Consider your own life, consider why God chose you and what you have done for him.
What aspects of your Christian journey have brought you the most satisfaction?
What aspects of your Christian journey have been the most challenging?

For further reflection / discussion on this Sunday’s sermon:
How has God been nurturing your faith? What pervious vocations and employment opportunities have you had? What insights, attitudes or experience does this bring to your current relationships with God and with those around you?
What strategies are you using to balance the demands of your various vocations?
How is God currently nurturing your faith? What good works do you think he is preparing you for next?

For further reflection / discussion on this Sunday’s sermon:
As we begin our Lenten journey this year I wonder…
What is important to you in the theology and practice of Lutheran worship?
What is important to you in the theology and practice of Lutheran witness?
What is important to you in the theology and practice of Lutheran mission?
Romans 5 states we are ‘Justified by Faith’. This is a huge deal for us as Lutherans. But what does it actually mean? And once we are justified, what happens next?
