Today, on World Environment Day, we share A Prayer for the Earth from Laudato Si’, inviting us to celebrate the beauty and fragility of creation and to remember our responsibility to care for our common home.

All powerful God,
you are present in the universe
and in the smallest of your creatures.
You embrace with your tenderness all that exists.
Pour out upon us the power of your love,
that we may protect life and beauty.
Fill us with your peace, that we may live
as brothers and sisters, harming no one.
O God of the poor,
help us to rescue the abandoned
and forgotten of this earth,
so precious in your eyes.
Bring healing to our lives,
that we may protect the world and not prey on it,
that we may sow beauty,
not pollution and destruction.
Touch the hearts
of those who look only for gain
at the expense of the poor and the earth.
Teach us to discover the worth of each thing,
to be filled with awe and contemplation,
to recognize that we are profoundly united
with every creature
as we journey towards your infinite light.
We thank you for being with us each day.
Encourage us, we pray, in our struggle,
for justice, love and peace.

Mass Online – Feast of the Holy Trinity (Year A)

The Holy Trinity teaches us that God is not an inanimate object that we worship, He exists in three distinct persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Bishop Greg says that the Trinity teaches us that God is a living relationship of love. When we recognise this love within ourselves, we begin to understand our true identity and see more profoundly who God is.

Mass Online – Pentecost (Year A)

Bishop Greg says that while people often speak about the different gifts of the Holy Spirit, today’s Gospel gives us the key to the role the Spirit plays in our daily lives.

The Holy Spirit is the very love of the Father and the Son poured into our hearts, giving each of us the divine power to extend true forgiveness, patience, and peace. Through this gift, our lives are changed so that we can become carriers of Christ's presence to the world.

Sally Towns was known to many of us as a remarkable, talented and kind woman.

For more than 30 years, Sally served Catholic education across Australia, leaving a lasting impact on the dioceses of Lismore, Brisbane, Canberra-Goulburn, and Cairns. Sally led our diocese's Catholic schools from 2019–2021, guiding our community through one of the most challenging periods in living memory, which included bushfires, floods, and the COVID-19 pandemic. Her leadership during this time was exemplary, providing clear direction for our school communities.

Sally began her teaching career in Tumut within the Canberra-Goulburn Diocese before moving to Mid North Coast and the Diocese of Lismore. She worked at John Paul College, Coffs Harbour, where she established and led a dedicated school annex to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in Bowraville. Sally later taught at St Paul’s College, Kempsey before accepting a role as deputy principal and later principal at MacKillop Catholic College, Hobart.

Sally later served as director of school effectiveness in the Catholic Education Office for the Diocese of Cairns. In 2019, she was appointed Director of Catholic Schools for the Diocese of Lismore, before moving to Queensland in 2022, where she was executive director of Brisbane Catholic Education until March 2026.

While we mourn the loss of Sally, we celebrate a life lived in service to the Gospel, which made a lasting impact on so many.

Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her.

May she rest in peace.

With deep sadness, the Diocese of Lismore Catholic Schools acknowledges the passing of Dr Sally Towns.

Sally served our Lismore Catholic School communities with wisdom, warmth and deep faith, leading us through a period of significant change and renewal for our organisation. Her leadership helped guide our transition to a new governance structure and strengthened the future of Catholic education across our Diocese.

Across many years in Catholic education, Sally was greatly admired for her integrity, humility and unwavering commitment to young people, families and staff. She believed deeply in the mission of Catholic education and in creating communities where every person was known, valued and supported. Her influence continues in the lives she shaped, the communities she strengthened, and the many educators she encouraged and inspired.

We give thanks for Sally’s life of service, leadership and faith, and we extend our heartfelt condolences to her family, friends and all who are grieving her loss. We pray that Christ’s peace and comfort will surround them in the days ahead, and we give thanks for the gift of Sally’s life and the legacy.

May she rest in peace.

National Volunteer Week 🤝

As National Volunteer Week begins, we take a moment to pause and give thanks to the countless volunteers who quietly and faithfully serve our parishes, Catholic schools, aged care services, St Vincent's Lismore, and our wider community.

Volunteers support liturgies, pastoral care, education, social outreach, and provide community connection for so many. This week invites us to reflect on their generous offering of time, skills, and compassion that supports our Church and embody Christ’s call to love and serve one another.

May this week renew our gratitude, encourage one another in service, and remind us that every act of kindness, no matter how small, helps reveal God’s love in the world.

Mass Online – Ascension (Year A)

This Sunday, we celebrate the Ascension, where Jesus travels from earth to heaven.

Bishop Greg says that because Jesus carries our humanness into heaven, we can see the beauty of God through what we perceive as our own imperfections. He reminds us that heaven is a gift of love, where our vulnerabilities become the very places we experience the presence of Christ.
