Capuchin Mission Australia

Capuchin Mission Australia Through divine inspiration, Saint Francis renewed the missionary spirit in his day by the example of his life and the force of his Rule.

Therefore, in that same spirit, we strife to reach out to those who are in need locally as well as overseas Missions. We seek for support to help the Capuchin Missionary places overseas and Ministry to the Poor in Australia. We also, seek for assistance to support our Student Friars in their Education and Formation Program.

Today is the third day of the Novena in honor of St Anthony of Padua. Let us pray.

+ In the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. AMEN

Day 3 (June 6)
O purest St. Anthony, who through your angelic virtue was made worthy to be caressed by the Divine Child Jesus, to hold him in your arms and press him to your heart. I entreat you to cast a benevolent glance upon me. O glorious St. Anthony, born under the protection of Mary Immaculate, on the Feast of her Assumption into Heaven, and consecrated to her and now so powerful an intercessor in Heaven, I beseech you to obtain for me the favor I ask in this novena (State your intention). O great wonder-worker, intercede for me that God may grant my request.

One Our Father, one Hail Mary, and Glory Be to the Father, in honor of Saint Anthony.

Saint Anthony, pray for us!

Memorial of St Marcellin Champagnat

St. Marcellin Champagnat, the Founder of the Marist Brothers, was born in 1789. He died fifty-one years later in 1840.

His life was simple and unspectacular. The region in which he lived and worked was run-down, materially poor, educationally ignorant and morally at a low ebb, for the French Revolution and Napoleonic Wars had taken their toll on such districts in France.
Some civic and church authorities, as well as fellow priests, bitterly opposed Fr. Champagnat's attempts to found an Order of Brothers who could help alleviate this misery. They said he was mad, incapable of such a work, lacking in sufficient brains and destitute of sufficient resources.

But when he died in 1840, more than 320 young men had already chosen to follow his way of life and work. Within twenty years this number expanded to well over 2000, so that today there are some 6000 Brothers teaching over 500,000 students throughout the world.

Over the years, the spirit of St. Marcellin Champagnat has been handed on to the Brothers and to the teachers and students of their schools.

SATURDAY, JUNE 6, MARK 12:38-44
Weekday
(2 Timothy 4:1-8; Psalm 71)
KEY VERSE: "For they have all contributed from their surplus wealth, but she, from her poverty" (v 44).
READ: The scribes were the learned interpreters of the Law of Moses. Jesus reproached them for making a public show of holiness and using their office for prestige rather than for service. Moreover, they ignored the Law of Moses that required aid for helpless widows and orphans (Ex 22: 21). Because the scribes knew God's will, they were more culpable than those who were ignorant of the Law. Jesus contrasted their behavior with that of a poor widow. While sitting in the Temple, Jesus observed that many rich people placed large donations from their surplus wealth in the Temple treasury. But a poor widow gave two small coins (leptons), all that she had to live on. She embodied Jesus' great command, God and neighbor, with one's entire being (Mk 12:30-31).
REFLECT: Lord Jesus, help me to give generously from my heart.
PRAY: Do I share the gifts God has given me?

Let us pray.

Day 2 (June 5)
O miracle-working St. Anthony, remember that it never has been heard that you left without help or relief anyone who in his need had recourse to you. Animated now with the most lively confidence, even with full conviction of not being refused, I fly for refuge to thee, O most favored friend of the Infant Jesus. O eloquent preacher of the divine mercy, despise not my supplications but, bringing them before the throne of God, strengthen them by your intercession and obtain for me the favor I seek in this novena (State your intention).

One Our Father, one Hail Mary, and Glory Be to the Father, in honor of Saint Anthony.

Memorial of Saint Boniface, bishop and Martyr

Boniface was educated at the Benedictine monastery at Exeter, England.

He was a missionary to Germany from 719, assisted by Saint Albinus. Boniface destroyed idols and pagan temples and then built churches on the sites. In Saxony, Boniface encountered a tribe worshiping a Norse deity in the form of a huge oak tree. Boniface walked up to the tree, removed his shirt, took up an ax, and hacked down the six-foot-wide wooden god without a word. Boniface stood on the trunk, and asked, "How stands your mighty god? My God is stronger than he." The crowd's reaction was mixed, but some conversions began.

As Archbishop of Mainz, he reformed churches, built religious houses in Germany, and founded or restored the dioceses of Bavaria, Thuringia, and Franconia. Boniface evangelized in Holland but was set upon by a troop of pagans, and he and 52 of his new flock were martyred.

Morning Prayer

May the Martyr Saint Boniface be our advocate, O Lord, that we may firmly hold the faith he taught with his lips and sealed in his blood and confidently profess it by our deeds. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever.

FRIDAY, JUNE 5, MARK 12:35-37
Memorial of Saint Boniface, Bishop and Martyr
(2 Timothy 3:10-17; Psalm 119)
KEY VERSE: "The Lord said to my Lord, `Sit at my right hand until I place your enemies under your feet'" (v 36).
READ: Jesus had been interrogated by the Pharisees, the Herodians, the Sadducees, and the scribes. Now it was Jesus' turn to ask questions. These religious leaders were hoping for a new king like David who would restore independent rule to Israel. Jesus asked how they could claim that the Messiah would be David's son, since David himself addressed the Messiah as "Lord" (Ps 110:1). Jesus was of Davidic descent, but he was also God's son. He came to fulfill the promises made to David (2 Sam 7:12-16), but only in a spiritual sense. Jesus' kingdom would "endure," and his throne would "stand firm forever." The people were filled with joy and hope that the Messiah had indeed come in the person of Jesus.
REFLECT: Jesus, you are my Lord and God.
PRAY: Do my actions help others revere the name of Jesus?

Today is the first day of the Novena in honor of St Anthony of Padua.

Let us pray.
+ In the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. AMEN

Day 1 (June 4)
O holy St. Anthony, gentlest of saints, your love for God and charity for his creatures made you worthy while on earth to possess miraculous powers. Miracles waited your word, which you were ever ready to speak for those in trouble or anxiety. Encouraged by this thought, I implore you to obtain for me the favor I seek in this novena (State your intention). The answer to my prayer may require a miracle; even so, you are the saint of miracles. O gentle and loving Saint Anthony, whose heart was ever full of human sympathy, whisper my petition into the ears of the Infant Jesus, who loved to be folded in your arms, and the gratitude of my heart will always be yours.

One Our Father, one Hail Mary, and Glory Be to the Father, in honor of Saint Anthony.
Saint Anthony, pray for us!
