Leichhardt Uniting Church - LUC

Leichhardt Uniting Church - LUC A community of people committed to following Jesus. Who We Are:
We are a community of followers of the original Social Justice Warrior: Jesus.

We are serious about God’s call to love our neighour as we seek to live out our mission of Keeping Faith, Doing Justice and Building Community. We take our call to discipleship seriously, but we have a lot of fun doing it. Our strength is our diverse congregation, whose commitment to Christ is reflected in our missional focus:
Keeping Faith
Doing Justice
Building Community

Our History & Theology:

Originally founded as a Methodist Church in 1880, Leichhardt Uniting Church (LUC) is a member of the Uniting Church in Australia. Our history is steeped in Radical Discipleship: a path that compels us to engage in social justice action and advocacy. We are an affirming church and welcome members of the LGBTQIA+ community. We are also an anti-racist church, committed to decolonising, and building relationships with the First Peoples of this continent. And even though we've been around for more than 140 years, we are a young and growing congregation. Children are welcome to attend services or to join in with our amazing morning kids church: LUCy Ducks. A vital part of our church is Epworth House. Located next door, Epworth House is an intentional Christian community of students who contribute to the life and mission of LUC. What To Expect:
We typically have two services a day: 10am and 6:30pm. If you come in the morning, expect a boisterous crowd, an excellent morning tea and a mixture of old and new songs. If you come in the evening, expect to see more of our student community, a relaxed atmosphere and mostly modern songs. We also host a supper after our evening service, which everyone is welcome to attend. Our Moderation Policy:
We welcome respectful discussion and debate. We're definitely the kind of place to tackle tough questions. But comments that are racist, sexist, homophobic, or amount to bullying or name-calling will be deleted. Save that for Twitter!

Forgiveness = what, exactly?
Join us through June as we explore this foundational, but oft misunderstood and misused, theological concept in our next preaching series: The Disciple's Guide to Forgiveness. Kicking off the series this Sunday 7th June is Rev. Radhika Sukumar-White, preaching on how and why God forgives, and why that matters.

In 2009, a group of Palestinian Christians issued the Kairos Palestine Document, a call to faith, justice and an end to occupation in Palestine. In response to this original call, Leichhardt Uniting Church (LUC) commits to standing in solidarity with Palestinian people and working towards a just peace in Palestine. We commit to understanding more about historical and ongoing violence in Palestine, and how this land, people and place is interwoven in the stories that ground our faith. We affirm the Kairos document and commend it to the wider Church. We call upon the Church to listen and respond.
A statement by Leichhardt Uniting Church, originally published in December 2023, has now been updated; you can read the full statement here: https://www.leichhardtuniting.org.au/palestine-israel-statement
