Ps Ian Jagelman went to the Lord on Tuesday 8 September aged 81. He is the founding pastor of C3 Church Lane Cove (then known as Christian City Church North Shore) planted in February 1984 when there were only 4 C3 churches. The original C3 was planted by Ps Phil and Chris Pringle in Dee Why, Sydney. Of course there are now 639 C3 churches globally but 2 of the originals are still thriving because godly leaders discovered and built other leaders, Ian was a people builder.
Ian had a great sense of humour, he was thoroughly committed to the authority of Scripture, he had a gift of wisdom and was never afraid of figuring out how to deal with new problems. Ian was big on integrity as a requirement of responsibility. He believed in the power of the Spirit but incarnated in lives in the world.
Ian had a scholarly mind and although gentle with Everyman would not allow half baked thoughts to be served to people.
He shifted many people with the difference between ministry and leadership and wrote and taught extensively on what is a spiritual leader.
Ian, had a stellar career before pastoring in international tax at Price Waterhouse and he was able to blend wisdom learned here with structuring and governing churches for fruitfulness. We carry today a great spiritual legacy of form and function in organising what God is working through.
Many churches, leaders and Christians have benefited and been shaped by knowing Ps Ian. He was deeply foundational for Mandy and I and despite a big personality a man of remarkable humility who put Jesus first, handed on his church and ultimately called us his Pastors. We will miss you Ian but are glad we will laugh again in the coming Kingdom. I have fought the good fight and run the race now the prize remains.
To Jeanie and Josh and Dan and all the family, our deepest sympathies, your missing him is greater but thank you for sharing Ian with us.
