A thanksgiving for friendship
with each other, and with God

Thank you, God, for our friends,
most precious, dearest, closest to our hearts.
They listen to us with love,
and when they speak
we love to hear them.
They know our worst habits,
and they stick with us anyway.
We know all the ways they drive us crazy,
and we choose their crazy
over anyone else’s normal.
We wait for one another,
look for ways to bless each other,
remember the stories that matter,
and some that don’t.

Thank you, God, that you offer us
just such friendship.
You listen to us with love,
and when you speak,
we love to hear you.
You know our worst habits,
and you care for us anyway.
You drive us crazy with your
ridiculous generosity to everyone,
and we long for your crazy
over anyone else’s normal.
We wait for each other,
look for ways to bless each other,
remember the stories that matter,
and some that don’t.
Thank you, God, that you accept our friendship,
most precious, dearest, closest to our hearts.

The Most Revd and Rt Hon Dame Sarah Mullally, the new Archbishop of Canterbury, has set off on an 87-mile pilgrimage today.

Walking from St Paul's in London to Canterbury Cathedral in Kent, the pilgrimage is part of her spiritual preparation for her Installation service on 25 March.

A short service was held at St Paul’s Cathedral, before the Archbishop, with her husband Eamonn and other pilgrims, walked across the Thames and began their exciting journey.

Speaking from the steps of St Paul's, Archbishop Sarah said: 'Thank you so much for coming to be here today... Do join with me in praying over the next five to six days as I walk to Canterbury.... Do pray for me and I will continue to pray for you, that together we journey with God and into God, but most importantly with each other.'

We welcome the announcement of Australia’s first standalone national plan to address rates of domestic and family violence against First Nations women and children.

Co-designed with Indigenous peoples and federal and state governments, this 10-year roadmap, Our Ways — Strong Ways — Our Voices, will provide a much needed step in improving the safety and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and children. This plan has been supported with a commitment of $218.3 million new federal government funding over four years for a network of up to 40 Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations to deliver specialist support services.

"It is heartbreaking that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women are so disproportionately impacted by domestic and family violence. This reality calls us to prayer, repentance, and action. As followers of Jesus we are animated by a vision where women and children are safe, honoured, and able to flourish, and where communities are ordered toward dignity, justice, and right relationship. We welcome this policy as a step in that direction and pray it leads to sustained, First Nations-led action that makes it a reality.” Gershon Nimbalker, Common Grace National Director

SNAICC, the peak body for First Nations children, consulted with more than 80 Indigenous organisations in the design of this plan and have highlighted the establishment of this plan, shaped by the voices and views of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, comes as the result of decades of advocacy and work from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women, communities and services.
