LENT STARTS ON THIS WEDNESDAY, ASH WEDNESDAY.

🙏 A Season of Reflection: Our Lenten Obligations
As we begin the journey of Lent, we are called to return to the heart of our faith through prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. Here at St Joseph’s Kingswood, we want to ensure everyone feels prepared to observe these holy traditions.

Under the guidance of Christ's Church, here are the core obligations for Catholics during this season:

🥗 Fasting & Abstinence
Ash Wednesday & Good Friday: These are days of fasting and abstinence. Fasting (one full meal, and two smaller meals that don’t equal a full meal) applies to those aged 18–59.

Fridays of Lent: All Fridays are days of abstinence, meaning we refrain from eating meat. This applies to everyone age 14 and older.

🛐 Prayer
Lent is a 40-day invitation to deepen our conversation with God. Whether it’s attending daily Mass, spending time in Adoration, or praying the Stations of the Cross, let’s make extra space for silence and reflection. Attending the sacrament of confession should be of utmost priority.

🤲 Almsgiving
We are called to sacrificial giving, not just from our surplus, but from our hearts.

Lent is a serious time for reflection and repentence. Make it count!

The Eucharistic Congress is fast approaching and the Holy father calls us to reflect on what the eucharist actually is.

"This is my body, given for you"

What does it mean for you?

Archbishop Anthony Fisher OP has announced “This is My Body, Given for You” has been chosen by the Holy Father Pope Leo XIV as the theme for the International Eucharistic Congress (IEC) to be held in Sydney in 2028. The theme was confirmed by Fr Corrado Maggioni SMM, President of the Pontifical Committee for International Eucharistic Congresses, on his recent trip to Australia in September.

This morning, we have found the banner of the Jubilee Year with some artwork on it. We pray for the artist. The art will be removed 😀😀😀. The artist is welcome to St Joseph’s anytime for prayer and meditation. At this time we do not commission any artwork for the church. Thank you for understanding.
