✝️ Today we held an ecumenical Stations of the Cross pilgrimage ✝️

Beginning at St Anthony’s Catholic Church with the first four Stations and walking to St James Anglican Church, ending there with the last four.

We stopped for six Stations along the way.

It was a wonderful expression of Christian Unity 🙏

Thank you to Rev’d Constantine and Fr Paul for making it happen.

GOOD FRIDAY
Solemn Liturgy 3.00pm
St Anthony’s Church, Kingscliff.

Good Friday Liturgy has no beginning; it picks up where we left off the night before, on Holy Thursday.
We gather in the Church, the Priests and servers enter in silence. The celebrant lays prostrate before the Altar, a sign of humility and surrender to God, while we all kneel in silent prayer.

The tabernacle is bare, last night, on Holy Thursday, the Eucharist was moved to a separate "altar of repose," to represent Christ's abandonment, passion, and death. The tabernacle door is left open on Good Friday, Christ has been taken, removed from his disciples.

The Altar is stripped bare, symbolic of Christ being abandoned and stripped of his garments before the crucifixion.

Following the Liturgy of the Word we have the Veneration of the Cross, the Cross, being the central feature in the observance of Good Friday.
It is carried in to the church, held high by the priest and placed on the steps of the Sanctuary.

Next is the Communion Rite. There is no ‘Mass’. There is no consecration.
Good Friday is linked to the celebration of the Lord’s Supper on Holy Thursday, and we look forward to the Eucharist of the Easter Vigil.
We do however, receive Holy Communion from the consecrated Hosts on Holy Thursday.

Remembering Christ’s sacrifice. Each of the faithful then has the opportunity to honour the cross should they wish.

We leave the church in silence.

Reconciliation is made available after the 3.00pm Liturgy on Good Friday.

The Triduum continues the following evening on Holy Saturday in the Easter Vigil at 7.00pm.

Today is Holy Thursday.

At Sundown this evening, the Paschal Triduum begins with the Mass of the Lord's Supper at 7.00pm. St Anthony's Church, Kingscliff.

We remember and make present Christ’s institution of the Eucharist, and His institution of the ministerial priesthood, with the words: 'Do this in memory of me'.

Christ gave his disciples the new commandment to love as he loved, and he demonstrated this love by washing their feet; so we re-enact this too, as each priest acts in the person of Christ.

The Mass does not conclude.

We leave the church in silence after a period of prayer at the Altar of Repose.

The Eucharist is transferred to this altar as a symbol of Jesus’ journey to the garden of Gethsemane to pray before the coming trial of his death.

We watch and wait with him as he asks his disciples to do on that night 🙏

The Triduum continues tomorrow at 3.00pm - Good Friday.
