Each year, as Pesach approaches, the Pesach Shop becomes our annual test of patience, creativity, and determination.
It starts simply: we request product lists from Melbourne importers (which somehow only arrive around Purim). This year, we even asked them to flag delays in advance.
Once the lists finally came in, we opened orders and placed our bulk purchases only to discover some items hadn’t arrived and others were already sold out.
We sent my brother Shmuly Gordon to Melbourne to collect what he could, find substitutes, and organise shipping. After two long days, some orders still weren’t ready, substitutes were scarce, and the warehouse we planned to use was suddenly unavailable.
After scrambling to find a new space, we missed the regular freight cutoff and had to switch to express shipping just as new rules kicked in requiring forklifts at both ends.
Between chasing approvals for the shipping portal, fixing consignment errors, and making an emergency trip to Melbourne myself, it’s been… eventful.
Baruch Hashem it has all paid off and the shipments have arrived safe and sound in Tasmania.
Huge thanks to Shmuly, his wife Faigy, Shane and Saphira and everyone behind the scenes who make this happen every year.
