Over the past week we have spent time in the UK celebrating Rochel's sisters wedding. Some of you may remember Sara Beenstock visiting Tassie several years ago - to help out over the Chanukah and summer season.

While there we took advantage of visiting an annual Tasmanian snow bird. Jill has been a regular visitor to Tasmania during the summer months when she visits her family.
It was so special going over to visit her on her home turf as we ate, and laughed over shared Tassie memories. (English people still can't understand why a cucumber is $3!)

This week, we’re heading back on the road to connect with Jewish people living across beautiful and isolated Tasmania.

For many people in regional and remote areas, Jewish connection isn’t something that can be taken for granted. A simple visit, warm conversation, Shabbat meal, or knowing that someone remembers them can mean more than words can describe.

Over the years, we’ve met incredible individuals and families throughout Tasmania quietly holding onto their Jewish identity, often far from established community life. Every trip reminds us how powerful genuine connection can be.

This week we’ll be travelling, visiting, supporting, listening, and reconnecting with people across the state. Whether someone is deeply connected or hasn’t engaged in years, our message is simple: you are not forgotten.

If you live in Tasmania, know someone there, or think there’s someone we should reach out to while we’re visiting, we’d genuinely love to hear from you.

Thank you Gilad Shavit and Mia for hosting such a lovely Lag Baomer get together. The children enjoyed archery, and of course roasting marshmellows in the bonfire!

The chickens loved the BBQ that was left for them after everyone left 😅

Each year, as Pesach approaches, the Pesach Shop becomes our annual test of patience, creativity, and determination.

It starts simply: we request product lists from Melbourne importers (which somehow only arrive around Purim). This year, we even asked them to flag delays in advance.

Once the lists finally came in, we opened orders and placed our bulk purchases only to discover some items hadn’t arrived and others were already sold out.

We sent my brother Shmuly Gordon to Melbourne to collect what he could, find substitutes, and organise shipping. After two long days, some orders still weren’t ready, substitutes were scarce, and the warehouse we planned to use was suddenly unavailable.

After scrambling to find a new space, we missed the regular freight cutoff and had to switch to express shipping just as new rules kicked in requiring forklifts at both ends.

Between chasing approvals for the shipping portal, fixing consignment errors, and making an emergency trip to Melbourne myself, it’s been… eventful.

Baruch Hashem it has all paid off and the shipments have arrived safe and sound in Tasmania.

Huge thanks to Shmuly, his wife Faigy, Shane and Saphira and everyone behind the scenes who make this happen every year.

Shabbat Shalom
