St George Coptic Orthodox Church Official page for St George Coptic Orthodox Church, Kensington, Sydney, Australia. It was given the name St George Coptic Orthodox Church.

The growing Coptic community in the Eastern suburbs of Sydney petitioned Bishop Samuel for a church. On the 3rd of September 1972 A Methodist Church, in Kensington, was leased and later purchased by the Copts. It was in August 1973 that Bishop Samuel along with Fr Mina Nematalla and Fr Youhanna celebrated the first Liturgy in the church. An impressive two storey Sunday school building containing seven classes and office and large hall was constructed in 1984. His Holiness Pope Shenouda later consecrated the Church on November 22nd 1989. Since then Parish Priest Father Marcos Khella transformed the interior of the church by contracting expert craftsmen from Egypt to design, hand carve and install an Iconostasis, 36 icons, 2 pulpits, a large dome on the alter, and a niche, all beautifully fashioned according to traditional Coptic design. This took place between 1991/1992 thus making St George Church a splendid monument of Coptic Art and Iconography. By 1993 The Lord had blessed the church with a growing congregation and a new priest, Father Rafael. In 2000 Major changes were made to the church building as another church was built upstairs for English services as well as new Sunday school rooms and youth area. In 2004 Father Matthew was ordained priest for youth ministry and began his service at St George Church. Due to the growth and demand for service at St George in 2013 Dr Raef Farag the Sunday school coordinator at St George was ordained as the Father Kyrillos the fourth serving Priest of St George

The Feast of St Julius El aqfasy: a servant , a historian and a martyr

When we hear the word martyr, we often think of the final moment—the sword, the prison, the suffering, the confession of faith. But the life of St. Julius teaches us something deeper:
A martyr does not become a witness at the moment of death. He becomes a witness by the way he lives.

The word martyr means witness. And St. Julius witnessed Christ long before he witnessed Him through his blood.
He was not simply a man who died for Christ. He was a man whose entire life had become an offering to Christ.
One of the beautiful aspects of St. Julius's life is that he became a servant of those who were suffering for Christ.

He genuinely cared for martyrs.
He recorded their stories and miracles
He assisted their families.
He preserved the memory of their witness

He used his resources to serve people whom the world considered worthless.

Sometimes we admire saints without imitating them. This has become all too common today

We read about martyrs.
We celebrate their feasts.
We kiss their icons.
We ask for their intercessions.
However, the Church gives us the saints not merely so that we can admire them.
The saints are given to us so that we can become more like Christ.

St. Julius teaches us that love is not simply an emotion.
Love serves sincerely
Love sacrifices wholeheartedly
Love notices suffering.
Love gives generously
Love carries another person's burden with love and meekness

Perhaps there is someone in your life who is suffering quietly.
Someone who needs encouragement.
Someone who feels forgotten.
Someone whose faith is weak.
Someone in your family who needs patience rather than criticism.
Someone at church who needs friendship.
Someone who is grieving.
Someone who has fallen and is afraid to return.

St. Julius would ask us:
What are you doing with the suffering person God has placed in front of you?
Because Christ said:
"Whatever you did for one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me."
When we serve the suffering, we are serving Christ Himself.

May the life ministry and character of St Julius inspire us to serve and witness to Christ

The Great and Glorious Feast of the Cross

A unique celebration of the feast of the cross took place yesterday to mark 1700 since the discovery of the cross by Queen Helen in Jerusalem in 326 AD

His Holiness Pope Tawadros II accompanied by clergy and laity lead the celebration at St Mark Cathedral Cairo .

Blessed Feast of the Cross

We rejoice in the life-giving Cross of our Lord Jesus Christ — the sign of salvation, love, victory, and hope. The Cross is not merely a symbol we admire, but the very place where Christ offered Himself for the life of the world. Through the Cross, death was destroyed, sin was conquered, and the door of eternal life was opened to us.

As the Church lifts up the precious Cross, we are reminded that our strength is not in ourselves, but in Christ who was crucified for us. In our struggles, sorrows, and weaknesses, the Cross remains our weapon, our hope, and our steadfastness. It teaches us that suffering united with Christ is never without purpose, and that beyond Golgotha there is always Resurrection.

May this blessed feast renew in our hearts a deeper love for our crucified Lord, a stronger faith in His saving work, and a desire to carry our own crosses with patience, humility, and joy.
