In her latest reflection, "Every Answer Matters," Sister Helen CSC draws together three unlikely stories: the 2026 Australian Census (which insists every single answer matters), a scrappy tomato bush that grew uninvited under her hedge and, once cared for, produced over 20 tomatoes, and John's Gospel account of Jesus feeding 5,000 people from a boy's five loaves and two fish.
The thread connecting them all is simple but profound: nothing and no one is too small to matter. Just as the Census values everyone's answer, and a nearly-discarded w**d became a source of nourishment when given care, the boy's modest lunch became more than enough in Jesus' hands.
Sister Helen reminds us that we are all God's loved children, connected to one another and to creation itself — and that our small, often overlooked acts of care can ripple outward into blessings we may never fully see.
A gentle call to notice the "small" things — plants, people, ourselves — and treat them as though they matter. Because they do.
