TO THE VOLUNTEERS, SPONSORS, DONORS, ORGANISERS AND ATTENDEES…

Once again, the much‑loved Cairns Greek Festival returned on 7 June 2026, with large crowds.

The beautiful Redlynch grounds transformed into a vibrant slice of Greece.

Set among picturesque gardens with the stunning Byzantine church as a backdrop, this iconic annual event was a full day filled with colour, culture, music, laughter and unforgettable experiences for the whole family.

From early morning until sunset, crowds enjoyed everything Greek — and there was something for everyone.

Guests were welcomed by the irresistible aromas of freshly cooked Greek food, traditional sweets, and coffee, while the sounds of live Greek music and energetic dancing fill the air.

As people arrived they found lively program of entertainment including Greek music and dance, dazzling belly dancing, multicultural performances, and interactive demonstrations.

This year, we were excited to have the Cypriot Youth Brisbane Dance Group, showcasing breathtaking traditional costumes and impressive dance skills that bring generations of culture to life.

Adding to the atmosphere, Mihali and Nick performed live Greek music, featuring the unforgettable sound of the bouzouki.

Musical performances from the Redlynch State College choir were another highlight, delivering beautiful renditions that were warmly received by the audience.

Families relaxed with picnic‑style setting, sat on rugs, share food, dance together and soak up the feeling of being transported straight to a Greek village festival. Children enjoyed kids’ activities and fun competitions, while adults join in the laughter and excitement of Zorba dance lessons, plate smashing, honey puff eating challenges, olive spitting competitions, and lively cooking demonstrations.

A highlight of the day is the popular church tours, where visitors are invited to admire the majestic Byzantine icons and immerse themselves in a truly special spiritual experience. Nearby, the much‑loved Greek women prepare and cook fresh honey puffs right before your eyes — a crowd favourite that delights both young and old.

To make the day even more enjoyable, we had all‑day bus shuttle service from the Lutheran College and Redlynch State School, helping guests arrive comfortably without the stress of parking.

None of this is possible without our incredible 100 dedicated volunteers, whose passion and hard work help bring this festival to life year after year. Behind every successfully organized event there is an extraordinary volunteer team.

Organisers expressed their sincere gratitude to the volunteers, sponsors and entertainers from the local multicultural community, whose valued support and participation contributed to the celebratory atmosphere of the day and made the magic happen - OPA!

THE APOSTLES' FAST

On 8th June, we begin the Fast of the Holy Apostles, and we are called to embrace this sacred time with prayer, fasting, and reflection.

This week following Holy Pentecost, from the 1st June to 7th June is fast free, even Wednesday and Friday.

The Apostles' Fast is a beautiful opportunity to honour the Holy Apostles, especially Saints Peter and Paul, whose unwavering faith and tireless work laid the foundation of the early Church. Through this fast, we strive to draw closer to Christ, following the example of the Apostles in faith, sacrifice, and love.

The Apostles’ Fast, which is observed from 8th June to the 28th of June, is generally less strict than Great Lent, but still a meaningful time of discipline. We abstain from meat, dairy and eggs. However fish, wine, and oil are permitted (except Wednesdays and Fridays, which are fast days - no fish, wine, or oil).

Beyond abstaining from certain foods, this Fast invites us to grow spiritually and deepen our relationship with Christ; let us use this season of spiritual renewal to grow in faith, increase our prayers, and serve one another in love.

A BLESSED AND FRUITFUL APOSTLE'S FAST TO ALL!

Today we celebrated the Great Feast of Holy Pentecost, the day on which the Holy Spirit descended upon the Holy Apostles, filling them with divine wisdom and power and revealing the Church to the world.

As we gathered for the Divine Liturgy, we gave thanks to God for the gift of the All-Holy Spirit, who continues to guide, sanctify, and strengthen the faithful throughout every generation.

Apolytikion of Pentecost:

Blessed are You, O Christ our God, who have revealed the fishermen as most wise by sending down upon them the Holy Spirit, and through them You drew the world into Your net. O Lover of mankind, glory to You.

May the grace of the Holy Spirit enlighten our minds, strengthen our faith, and lead us into all truth.

Blessed Feast of Holy Pentecost!

Glory to God for another blessed Youth Fellowship evening following the English Vespers Service.

With a spiritual talk on Logismoi, the inner warfare spoken of by the Holy Fathers and how we can guard the heart through prayer, watchfulness, and life in Christ.

Thank you to all who attended and contributed to the discussion. May God continue to guide and strengthen you all.

3RD FINDING OF THE VENERABLE HEAD OF SAINT JOHN THE BAPTIST

Monday 25th May 7.30am - 9.30am
Matins and Divine Liturgy

Join us to commemorate Third Discovery of the Venerable Head of the Holy Prophet, Forerunner and Baptist John.

During the time of iconoclast persecution, the holy relic had been hidden in the ground at Komana for safekeeping. Later, Patriarch Ignatius of Constantinople saw in a vision the place where the precious head of Saint John was concealed. A delegation was sent by the emperor, and through God’s providence the holy relic was discovered around the year 850 and transferred with great reverence to Constantinople.

Holy Prophet, Forerunner and Baptist John, pray to God for us.

With joy and gratitude, we thank everyone who joined us on Thursday 21st for the blessed Feast Day of the Holy Ascension of our Lord and Saints Constantine and Helen (Αγίων Κωνσταντίνου και Ελένης).

A Cake was shared in honour of our parishioners celebrating their Nameday. It was a beautiful blessing to celebrate together as one parish family.

We prayerfully wish all those celebrating a heartfelt Χρόνια Πολλά, with good health, peace, and God’s abundant blessings through the intercessions of Saints Constantine and Helen.
