TO THE VOLUNTEERS, SPONSORS, DONORS, ORGANISERS AND ATTENDEES…
Once again, the much‑loved Cairns Greek Festival returned on 7 June 2026, with large crowds.
The beautiful Redlynch grounds transformed into a vibrant slice of Greece.
Set among picturesque gardens with the stunning Byzantine church as a backdrop, this iconic annual event was a full day filled with colour, culture, music, laughter and unforgettable experiences for the whole family.
From early morning until sunset, crowds enjoyed everything Greek — and there was something for everyone.
Guests were welcomed by the irresistible aromas of freshly cooked Greek food, traditional sweets, and coffee, while the sounds of live Greek music and energetic dancing fill the air.
As people arrived they found lively program of entertainment including Greek music and dance, dazzling belly dancing, multicultural performances, and interactive demonstrations.
This year, we were excited to have the Cypriot Youth Brisbane Dance Group, showcasing breathtaking traditional costumes and impressive dance skills that bring generations of culture to life.
Adding to the atmosphere, Mihali and Nick performed live Greek music, featuring the unforgettable sound of the bouzouki.
Musical performances from the Redlynch State College choir were another highlight, delivering beautiful renditions that were warmly received by the audience.
Families relaxed with picnic‑style setting, sat on rugs, share food, dance together and soak up the feeling of being transported straight to a Greek village festival. Children enjoyed kids’ activities and fun competitions, while adults join in the laughter and excitement of Zorba dance lessons, plate smashing, honey puff eating challenges, olive spitting competitions, and lively cooking demonstrations.
A highlight of the day is the popular church tours, where visitors are invited to admire the majestic Byzantine icons and immerse themselves in a truly special spiritual experience. Nearby, the much‑loved Greek women prepare and cook fresh honey puffs right before your eyes — a crowd favourite that delights both young and old.
To make the day even more enjoyable, we had all‑day bus shuttle service from the Lutheran College and Redlynch State School, helping guests arrive comfortably without the stress of parking.
None of this is possible without our incredible 100 dedicated volunteers, whose passion and hard work help bring this festival to life year after year. Behind every successfully organized event there is an extraordinary volunteer team.
Organisers expressed their sincere gratitude to the volunteers, sponsors and entertainers from the local multicultural community, whose valued support and participation contributed to the celebratory atmosphere of the day and made the magic happen - OPA!
