What a foggy morning it is here in the hills! Beautiful to be nestled in St Swithun’s Church for worship - and there’s a service at 9.30 at St Barnabas.

Today’s collect prayer:

O God,
you have assured the human family of eternal life
through Jesus Christ our Saviour:
deliver us from the death of sin
and raise us to new life in him,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Now is a good time to pray for, and give thanks for, all of those people who have kept the community safe in response to the storm. With trees down all over the hills, and power still out in spots, we pray for the safety of those who are helping their neighbours.

The photo is a very soggy kookaburra that has taken up residence under the pergola at the rectory, and a lovely Lilly Pilly tree that was blown down here on the grounds.

Stay safe everyone 🙏

Happy Ascension Day everyone! This evening more than forty people walked together to the top of the Zig Zag, where we worshiped as the sun set. A huge thanks to Bishop Kate and Bishop Hans, who preached and presided respectively, teaching and inspiring us!

Thanks also go to our neighbouring parish of Darlington-Bellevue (Hills Anglicans) and the Revd Peregrin Campbell-Osgood, their priest. It was such a joy that the two parishes came together for this special event.

Today's collect prayer: Eternal God, by raising Jesus from the dead you proclaimed his victory, and by his ascension, you declared him Lord of all: lift up our hearts to heaven, where he lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

We are SO EXCITED for this evening's Ascension Day walk: departing at 4pm sharp from the Gooseberry Hill Village Centre, then a 5pm outdoor service of Holy Communion at the top of the Zig Zag. If you can't walk the 2.5km, no worries: simply come to the top car park.

Thanks to Bishop Kate and Bishop Hans for leading us today – they'll get to put their crosiers (pastoral staffs) to very practical use!
