As we prepare to host the International Eucharistic Congress, Sydney 2028 (Eucharist28), the Catholic Archdiocese of Sydney joins with the entire nation in a year of prayer to help us prepare for this moment of grace.

By praying together, we open our hearts to the transformative work Jesus desires to do in our lives, readying ourselves for the profound encounter that Eucharist28 invites.

To begin this journey, the Archdiocese of Sydney is encouraging all parishes to unite on Sunday, March 1, by spending time in Holy Hour adoration following Mass.

We invite you to join us as we take our first steps toward Eucharist28 – gathering in adoration, prayer, and hopeful anticipation of all that God has in store.

Make sure you follow the Eucharist 28 page.
It will be celebrated in Sydney in 2028.

In 2028, Australia will host the 54th International Eucharistic Congress, a global encounter with Jesus Christ in the Eucharist.

This Sunday is the 3rd Santo Niño Festival in the Copper Coast

Bishop Karol Kulczycki SDS will concelebrate with Fr Steve Ardill, Fr Francis Montero, Fr Jimmy Pantin, and Fr Paul Quirk.

The Mass will be the highlight of the celebration which will be kicked off by a processional march and dancing by parishioners carrying images of the Child Jesus to the altar. The multicultural event, which is spearheaded by the Filipino community in the Copper Coast, will be attended by parishioners around the Copper Coast as well as from the parishes of Port Broughton, Port Pirie and Adelaide.

It will be a joyful and prayerful celebration encompassing dance, national costumes, and the praying of prayers in the languages of the Filipino cultural groups.

A Festival luncheon will follow at the Kadina Bowling Club.

This will be the third year the festival will be celebrated in honour of the Child Jesus in our Parish.

The celebration, which originated in the Philippines, in the 1500s when the Spanish expedition led by Ferdinand Magellan discovered the Philippine islands and gifted the native rulers with a statue of the Santo Niño in 1521.

BLESSINGS FOR NEW YEAR
As we embark on a new year may the Blessing invoked on Aaron and his sons in the Book of Numbers be a living reality in your lives and families:

May the Lord bless you and keep you.
May the Lord let His face shine on you and be gracious to you.
May the Lord uncover His face to you and bring you peace (Num 6:24-26).

On the 1st January each year we celebrate the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God. It is also observed each year as the World Day of Peace. Pope Leo XIV’s first message for the World Day of Peace (to be observed on January 1, 2026) is a heartfelt and urgent appeal for what he calls an “unarmed peace” — a peace built not on weapons, fear, or deterrence, but on trust, dialogue, and the conversion of hearts.

It is a very appropriate day to come to Mass to pray to Our Lady, Queen of Peace for the gift of her Son’s peace in our nation and our troubled world. Our Parish Masses on New Year’s Day will be celebrated as follows:
Wallaroo and Port Broughton – 9.30am
Moonta – 12 Noon
Kadina – 6.00pm

May the peace of Christ, born among us, strengthen our faith and unite us in love.
May our church be a place of welcome, healing, and hope, where God’s light shines through every act of service and compassion.
May we carry the joy of Christmas into the world we are called to serve.
Amen.
