At a time of renewed debate on immigration in Australia, we are called to respond with compassion, clarity and courage.
Jesus reminds us in Matthew 25:35: “I was a stranger and you welcomed me”.
As Christians, we are called to uphold truth, justice and dignity for all, beginning with right relationships with Australia’s First Peoples, and extending to every newcomer – whether they be a refugee, asylum seeker or visa holder.
Australia is a multicultural, multifaith society, strengthened by diversity. Policies that divide or dehumanise do not lead to a flourishing society; they only harm.
A strong and hopeful future is built through peaceful relationships and cooperation that honours the inherent dignity and equal worth of every person.
