Sermon - Sunday 10th May 2026

What are the easiest ways that we can allow Christ into our lives? It is more often than not that Christ becomes our go to person when we are in trouble or having a hard time. I often get calls from people asking for help when they have a crisis in their life and they turn to the church for assistance. More often than not the solution lies in the choices that we make in our lives and how we decide to live it. When our lives go sour we think God is not with us or we think someone has cursed us so we call the priest for a blessing. Any other time, the blessing from a priest is not sought or required since life is busy and family comes first. Sundays are our only day off in this long and tedious rat race. Those who live a fulfilling life in Christ understand that life will never be perfect and those imperfect times are a test of our faith and reliance on Christ as the one true God and our saviour. Psalm 46:1 (KJV) “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

Jesus appeared to a Samaritan woman and engaged in conversation with her. He revealed to her that He is the living water as opposed to the water in Jacob’s Well which won’t satisfy anyone’s thirst permanently. The material things of this world which we so tirelessly work for won’t bring ultimate satisfaction to our soul - we must fill our lives with His words and perform His will. The true thirst quencher is not any form of liquid available in the supermarket but Jesus Christ - those who eat my body and drink my blood have eternal life and create with HIm a spiritual bond.

Dearly beloved, we must look deeply into ourselves not only as individuals but as a church. Are the doors to our hearts fast closed to truth? We must not become blinded with arrogance and prepare to take the tedious trip to the Empty Tomb with the Ointment-Bearing Women. We must not just hear his voice like the rich, young ruler and turn away sad because everything else in life is more important to us than the Lord. Let us become like the Samaritan Woman who knows that there is nothing to fear in Him and who hungers so much for the living water that the Lord cannot possibly deny this to us.
