It is with heavy hearts that we announce the ‘Promotion to Glory’ of our local Salvo Champion….Dorothy Armstrong. For many years Dot has been the face of The Salvation Army in Horsham and throughout the Wimmera. Dot called herself a ‘hugger’ and hundreds of people would have received that familiar warm embrace from this wonderful lady. There are many facets to Dorothy’s ministry…..doing everything in the name of God. This includes her Hospital visitation, washing patient’s clothes and the distributing of Teddy Bears across the Wimmera. She assisted with the Horsham Arts Council and supervised young people’s activities during school holidays in the Plaza.
Her participation with the Salvos included the Thrift Shop, Home League and Red Shield Appeal as well as her enthusiastic participation in the weekly church service.
‘Aunty’ Dot loved the Salvos and was respected by many who knew her……or knew of her.
She was named a Horsham East Rotary Club Citizen of the month and received a Horsham Rural City Council Citizen of the Year Award.
Dorothy was a kind person who lived out her faith and made countless people happy.
Our thoughts and prayers go to Dorothy’s family at this sad time.
Funeral Details will be announced shortly.

This photo was taken a few years ago of Dot with the then Australian Leaders of the Salvation Army, Commissioners Floyd and Tracey Tidd.

The numbers tell an important story.
Housing affordability and homelessness are key concerns across our communities, including right here in Victoria.
Behind every statistic is a person, a family, a young person, or a neighbour who deserves safety, dignity and support.
This Homelessness Week, The Salvation Army is continuing to advocate for safe, affordable and secure housing,
and to support people experiencing homelessness across Australia.
Together, we can help end homelessness for good.

This Homelessness Week, we’re reminded that homelessness is not just about having nowhere to sleep.
It can mean living in a car, couch surfing, staying in unsafe housing, or not knowing where you’ll be next week.
Across Australia, many people are facing impossible choices because safe and affordable housing is out of reach.
At The Salvation Army, we believe everyone deserves dignity, respect and a safe place to call home.
This Homelessness Week, we’re standing with people experiencing homelessness and calling for action now.
