MAY OUR LORD COMFORT YOUR GRIEVING HEART!

While we are on our journey and before we enter the harbor of changeless eternity, we should expect for ourselves and in our circumstances change, ordinary and unexpected upheavals and sorrows. A certain venerable Father said: "Glory to God for all things, even our very infirmities! For it is preferable to be a sinner and recognise this, than it is to be superficially righteous and consider oneself as such".
These words are extremely comforting to those of us who are weak and sinful. They do not provide occasion to sin freely but console those who take heed of themselves and sense that their soul is an involuntary captive of sin. Reflecting upon this and seeing the absence of truth in the affairs of our life, we need to acquire the repentance of the publican: a contrite and humble heart that our Lord does not despise".

"Then, the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst, and said to them, "Peace be with you." When He had said this, He showed them His hands and His side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord.

The Journey of Saint Seraphim Rose to the Eternal, Heavenly Kingdom of God

Part 1 - Beginnings - early childhood

In 1934, a son named Eugene was born into a typical Protestant, middle class family, of second-generation immigrants to the US (of Norwegian, Swedish, French, Dutch background). His mother, a church-going Protestant Christian who encouraged his religious inclinations, was a strict disciplinarian who felt it was not good to compliment children too much lest they become conceited. His father was a humble and agreeable man and worked as a janitor. Eugene emulated his father’s practice of never exalting himself and was “satisfied with a little bit” when it came to worldly honour and material things.

From both parents, he acquired honesty, integrity and straightforwardness - qualities which were to later enable him to see through various forms of hypocrisy. He was a remarkably thoughtful, intelligent and quiet child, with a restraint in behaviour unusual in boys his age.

As a young boy, he read the Holy Scriptures and entirely on his own initiative, in the eighth grade, was baptised and confirmed as a Christian in a Methodist church.

However, in high school, Eugene ceased to pursue an interest in religion.
