Midweek Worship Thursday 10th September @ 1.30pm
Come and join us this Thursday for Midweek Service. Held monthly at 1.30pm this traditional service is for everyone (particularly if you are a bit slow in the morning!)
The service is followed by afternoon tea, a time of fellowship and chat. We aim to finish so we get home ahead of school time traffic too.

The Op Shop is settling in and lots of customers are coming through the door. What a wonderful way to be connecting with the community in faith and with kindness!

You may be wondering about our clothes pricing, we aim to keep it low and fair. Generally, unless marked otherwise - Ladieswear and Menswear $6 per item; Childrenswear Size 4 and above $4 per item, Size 3 and under $2 per item.

September is the Season Of Creation and this month St. Luke's will explore the theme: Living Water.

“Swarms of living creatures will live wherever the river flows. There will
be large numbers of fish, because this water flows there and makes
the salt water fresh; so where the river flows everything will live. [...]
Fruit trees of all kinds will grow on both banks of the river. Their leaves
will not wither, nor will their fruit fail. Every month they will bear fruit,
because the water from the sanctuary flows to them. Their fruit will
serve for food and their leaves for healing.

” (Ezek 47:9,12)

This year’s theme,

“Living Water”

, explores Ezekiel 47:9 and 12 as a
powerful biblical vision of hope and ecological healing. Set amid exile
and loss, the image of living water flowing from God’s sanctuary
reveals divine healing that renews land, water, biodiversity, and human
responsibility towards the whole creation.
The symbol depicts water flowing from the Temple of God - at first a
tiny stream that grows deeper, and deeper and as it does so, it brings
life to dead areas and restores fertility to damaged or barren
ecosystems. Through living water comes healing; but in order to
receive new life, we too must step into the water and also become part
of God’s river of life, taking part in the healing of creation.

𝗔 𝗣𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝘆𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗡𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗹

As we hear of the devastating floods in Nepal, we pause in sorrow and solidarity with all those affected. In the face of lives lost, families separated and communities facing profound uncertainty, we turn to God in prayer. We pray for those who grieve, those still waiting for news, and all who are working to bring rescue, care and hope.

God of compassion and mercy,

We hold before you the people of Nepal following the devastating flash floods in the Bhote Koshi River area.

We grieve with those who have lost loved ones. We pray for the many who are still missing, local people and visitors alike, for families waiting anxiously for news, for those who have been injured or displaced, and for communities facing such immense loss.

Draw near, O God.

Where there is grief, bring comfort.
Where there is fear, bring courage.
Where there is exhaustion, bring strength.
And in these difficult hours of searching and waiting, sustain hope.

We pray for all involved in search and rescue, evacuation, medical care and relief. Protect and strengthen them. Give wisdom to those coordinating the response, and may help reach those who need it most.

Jesus Christ, you entered into the suffering of our world and showed us a love that draws near. Draw near now to the people of Nepal in their suffering.

By your Spirit, weave together communities of care and compassion. Strengthen neighbours supporting one another, families holding one another close, and all who are offering shelter, comfort and hope.

God of life, we entrust to your mercy all who have died. Hold those who mourn. Be near to those still waiting for news. Strengthen all whose lives and livelihoods have been devastated by this disaster, and sustain them through the long journey of recovery.

Hold the people of Nepal in your love —
the love of the crucified and risen Christ,
a love that crosses every boundary,
a love that will not let us go.

Amen.

📖St Paul’s Uniting Church in Ballan once faced possible closure. Now, as it marks 160 years, its small congregation is sharing the historic church, hall and grounds more fully with the community around it.

It’s been a big week at St. Luke’s this week with the opening of Second Blessings Op Shop and now the Collectibles Sale this coming weekend!

Raising funds for Refugee Ministry - Friday 12noon - 4pm and Saturday 9-12 noon 22/22 August at St. Luke’s UCA, Highton Cnr Barrabool and Scenic Roads, Highton.
Lots of new items including some lovely art glass and coloured glass pieces, retro lamps, new pictures and paintings and so much more! Come in and browse our terrific selection of art glass, Japanese porcelain, jewellery, fine china, paintings, lamps, crystal, decanters, books, ornaments, vases, Grannie’s cupboard full of kitchenware, and so much more!

There will be a feature sale of napery, blankets, cushions, bells, ornamental shoes and more. Selected crystal, glassware, trays and placemats will be half price.
