THE UNEDITED LIFE
Matthew 5:33–37

We live in a world of edited lives. Social media lets us choose the photo, the angle and the moment we want people to see. But we don’t only do this online. We can carefully manage our words, our relationships and even our Christian lives so that people see the version of us we want them to see.

In Matthew 5:33–37, Jesus confronts a religious system that had become skilled at finding loopholes around truthfulness. Instead of simply asking, “Am I telling the truth?”, people could ask, “Technically, have I lied?”

Jesus cuts through it all: “Let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No,’ ‘No.’”

His words call us towards something deeper than simply avoiding lies. Jesus calls us to lives of integrity—to become people whose words and lives increasingly match reality.

What might that look like in our church?

Real People who don’t need to manufacture themselves.
Real Relationships where our words can be trusted.
Real Life where we don’t have to hide the messy parts.

And the gospel makes this possible because Jesus already knows the unedited version of us—and went to the cross for us.

What if being fully known by Jesus finally sets us free to stop pretending? This Sunday that is what we are going to unpack for us as we head towards the finish line in our Sermon on the Mount Series. See ya Sunday, Ps Rob
