The Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is commemorated on the second Friday after Trinity Sunday and the month of June is dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
This year the solemnity was commemorated on June 12.
Historical Origins: The practice largely grew out of a series of mystical visions experienced by St. Margaret Mary Alacoque, a French nun, in the 1670s. Jesus appeared to her, revealing his heart and asking for a special feast to be established to honour his love for mankind.
The solemnity will be commemorated on June 4 in 2027.
