OLQP Parish Greystanes

OLQP Parish Greystanes OLQP Greystanes is a vibrant Catholic community. Why not join us for Mass and a cup of tea afterwards? The high school was started in 1962.

Whether you’re a regular worshipper, new to the area, or you’ve been away for a while, we look forward to welcoming you. We have worshipped in the area since 1836, when we were part of the large Parramatta Parish established by Archbishop Polding. In 1946 we became part of the new Parish of Wentworthville and in 1958, among chicken farms and market gardens, we built the primary school and our firs

t Mass centre. We became a separate parish in 1972 with Fr Duggan as the first Parish Priest. He was succeeded a year later by Fr Darmenia who, with a dedicated group of parishioners built and opened our Church in 1975. Fr Galway together with his assistant, Fr Sciberras, continued the work of developing the Parish. Our Parish Church was built when Fr Roland Darmenia was Parish Priest. It was blessed and opened by His Eminence, Sir James Darcy Cardinal Freeman on 20th April, 1975. After extensive renovations it was solemnly dedicated by Bishop Bede Heather on 7th July, 1996. For ten years until 1994 the Brothers and Sisters of St Gerard Majella built on these foundations, enriching our liturgical life and establishing many new areas of ministry and outreach. Between 1994 and 2011 our Parish Priest, Fr Gerry Iverson, in collaboration with our Parish Team and sucessive Pastoral Councils, encouraged and welcomed the sharing of various gifts by parishioners which promoted and enhanced our many Parish ministries. In 2011, Fr Robert Bossini, was appointed Parish Priest of our rich and vibrant Parish. This year we celebrate the Golden Jubilee of Catholic Secondary Education at Greystanes and 40 Years as a Parish Community. To those who have gone before we say "Thank you" for giving us such a magnificent start.

A newly ordained Minister in our midst

Dear friends,
The man on the right in the picture is Rev Jeff Hood, ordained as a Deacon just recently by Bishop Vincent. He is a transitional Deacon, as he is hopefully soon to be ordained to the Priesthood. I was asked if we would have Deacon Jeff with us at OLQP – and Bishop Vincent has now formally appointed him here. Over the current few weekends Deacon Jeff will be introduced across the Mass times before moving in and starting properly during June after he completes a few other commitments.

I’ll just share a few things here about Deacon Jeff and you’ll appreciate more about him as he settles in: He is obviously an older man, which might seem surprising that he’s taking these new steps when many others in his age range are retiring! This is actually a calling from God that Jeff has long sensed, but across those many years, he has been busily and heavily involved in ministry. In fact, he is an extraordinarily qualified and experienced Catholic lecturer, spiritual director, therapist and educator – who has been responsible for forming and guiding many others for ministry, professional service and leadership! His own ordination now as a Deacon on his way to Priesthood, seems to me like someone being publicly acknowledged for much that’s been in his blood, his spirit and his practice for years. ... continue reading at www.olqp.org.au

The Peaceful Voice (weekly bulletin)
Cover piece by Fr Sebastian

Many Cultures • One Faith • One Spirit

Pentecost is not only a feast of the Church. It is the celebration of God’s dream for humanity — people of every nation, language, and culture united in love through the Holy Spirit.

In today’s Gospel, the risen Jesus comes among His disciples and offers them a simple yet powerful gift: “Peace be with you.” He then breathes upon them and gives them the Holy Spirit. It is a beautiful image. Breath gives life. At the beginning of creation, God breathed life into humanity, and now Christ breathes new life into His Church. That same Spirit continues to breathe life into our parish community today.

In our parish, we see that gift come alive every week. We hear different accents, see different faces, and bring different traditions, foods, songs, and stories. Yet we gather around the one altar as one family in Christ. This is Pentecost. The Holy Spirit speaks in every language and touches every heart...continue reading at www.olqp.org.au
