Who is still reaching out for healing? Whose stories are not being heard?

In this Sunday's sermon, Dean Naomi reflects on the Gospel stories of Jairus' daughter and the woman who had suffered for twelve years. Though these women remain unnamed in the Gospel, Jesus gives them his full attention, revealing a God who notices those who are overlooked, marginalised, grieving, or forgotten.

What might these stories teach us about listening more deeply to one another, creating space for voices that have not been heard, and trusting in a God who knows and loves every child, every parent, and every person whose suffering has been hidden behind shame or silence.

Trinity Sunday was enriched by the ministry of a recorder consort featuring Joanna King (Tenor), Lindy Crocker (Bass), Jennifer Brown (Great Bass) and Ian Brown (Contra Bass).

The unique and resonant sound of these instruments provided a beautiful musical offering before the service and during Communion, enhancing our worship as we celebrated the mystery of God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

This National Reconciliation Week, with the theme All In, we were deeply blessed by the ministry of Rev Canon Aunty Lenore Parker, Yaegl Elder, who preached at Christ Church Cathedral on Trinity Sunday.

Drawing on the sacred stories of the Yaegl people, Aunty Lenore reflected on the ways people encounter God through creation, story, culture and community. She called us to be faithful guardians of our rivers and Country, recognising that care for creation is not a new responsibility but one entrusted to humanity from the beginning.

She prayed, "Father of all, you gave us the Dreaming, and you spoke to us through our beliefs, and you are still speaking to your children today. Help us to listen to each other and to walk together as we learn our stories."

Aunty Lenore invited all to come to the water for a river blessing, to be anointed with healing oil, and to receive afresh the Spirit of Pentecost.

We give thanks for Aunty Lenore's wisdom, leadership, and witness, and for the invitation to listen deeply, walk together, and care for the gift of Country entrusted to us all.

During National Reconciliation Week, we have blessed by the beautiful musical gift of Yaegl musician and Cathedral parishioner Evette Clague. Her clarinet rendition of My Island Home grounded us as we commenced our Trinity Sunday Service.

We give thanks for Evette's skills and generosity, and for the spirit of connection and belonging her music brings.
