This week we celebrate the Trinity, a core but hard-to-follow teaching of the Christian Church; One God, three persons. Why does God reveal Himself to us and work in our lives and our world in this way? How did the Church come to this teaching, and how do we now support it? To consider these and other questions, have a read, watch, or listen to our Address for this Sunday on the Formula of Love, God coming and working as the Trinity in our lives.

When we think of Pentecost, and the coming of the Holy Spirit in general, we often think of the spectacular and dramatic; tongues of fire, speaking other languages, people transformed. But it’s important to remember that the Holy Spirit didn’t just come into our world at Pentecost, but comes continually.

Another account of the Holy Spirit coming into the world and the lives of God’s people is in our Gospel reading for this week, when, on the evening of the first Easter Sunday, Jesus comes to the disciples who are locked away in fear. On this occasion, the Spirit comes just as powerfully, but much more quietly. As Jesus breathes the Holy Spirit on them, they receive life, peace, and are sent out into the world to share the news of God’s kingdom.

What does this mean for us? How do we receive the Holy Spirit today? What does it mean for our lives now? To reflect on all these questions, have a read, watch, or listen to our Address for this week.

This Sunday, we celebrate Ascension Day, the forgotten festival of the Church, an event in Jesus’ earthly life which is as important as any other. It is the day when we remember that, having done all God had sent Him to do as part of His saving plan, God took Jesus back to heaven in glory.

But what does Ascension Day mean for us? It means that Jesus rules in God’s power and love; He is Above in Love. To consider more about what this means for us in our lives, and how we carry this out now to others, have a read, watch, or listen to our Address for this week.

As we celebrate Mother’s Day this week, the word that undoubtedly comes into the minds of all us is ‘love’. In an earthly way, the sacrificial and total love of mothers sums up what love is all about.

Mothers are gift from God, and their love is an example of both the love of God, and of the way God calls us to love others. In Jesus, God shows us that His love is total and unconditional, and He gives us the Holy Spirit to be with us always and to be a living presence of this love. As we know His love, we are called to share His love.

What does it mean to be Always Loved? How are we called to now be Always Loving? To reflect on both the love we have and the love we are called to share have a read, watch or listen to our Address for this week.

Jesus’ claim to be Way, the Truth, and the Life, is perhaps the best known of the seven ‘I am…’ sayings in John’s Gospel. But, like many examples of the written word, and it can also be taken out of context and given a very different meaning to that intended when Jesus spoke it. So, are they words of threat, warning, and exclusion, or words of comfort, peace, and good news for all? To go more into these words of Jesus, and the way He explains their meaning by what is written around them, have a read, watch, or listen to this week’s Address.

Whether it’s Psalm 23, or Jesus calling Himself the Good Shepherd, the image of the loving care of God as Shepherd is one of the best known and loved in the Bible. It’s great that even many people who don’t know much about God still know this image, as it tells of God’s love, care, and protection for all people.

But, as we go deeper, there is more to that too. In our reading today from John 10, Jesus talks about giving up His life for the sheep, us, because of His relationship with both the Father and with us. Also, we are reminded here that as the ‘sheep’ we are both called to hear His voice of love, and to help others to hear it also.

What does it mean for us that Jesus is our Good Shepherd? How do we go in listening to His voice, and taking His love out? To reflect on all this more have a read, watch, or listen to our Address for this Sunday.

Our Gospel reading for this Sunday, Luke 24:13-35, continues the accounts of how Jesus’ followers reacted to His death (still not believing He was alive again). As two of Jesus’ followers return home on Easter Sunday evening, having lost all hope, they are joined by Jesus, who they at first don’t recognise. But, in a way which is very significant for us, it was in Jesus talking them through the promises of God’s Word, and breaking the bread with them in a sacred meal, that their eyes were opened and they were able to then see their Saviour was alive.

For us, too, God continues to come to us in Word and Sacrament: the Bible, Baptism, and Holy Communion. In these means of grace, by the working of the Holy Spirit, God reveals Himself to us and shows that in Jesus, He is always with us. He turns our lack of hope into an expectant hope. For what this means in our lives, have a read, watch, or listen to our Address for this week.

As we move beyond the Easter celebrations, we are also called to go out and live as Easter people; to move past the cross as those who now live in the good news of Jesus’ resurrection. While we know that is what we are called to do, we also know that, like Thomas and the other disciples, we can also have doubts and struggles in our faith as we seek to live this new life.

Have a read, watch, or listen to this week’s Address to consider and reflect on what it means that we now, with Thomas, can make the confession, ‘You are my Lord and my God’.

Christ is risen! He is risen indeed! This is the greeting Christians have been exchanging with one another on this morning for the past 2,000 years. Jesus is alive. Death is defeated. We now have God’s love, hope and new life in our lives each day.

But the first Easter Sunday celebrations were very different to how we celebrate this day today. Instead of seeing life, Jesus’ family and friends saw death. Instead of seeing hope they saw despair. And instead of seeing victory they saw defeat. This led to one of the first witnesses of the Resurrection, Mary Magdelene, not even recognising Jesus when He first spoke to her outside the tomb. His being alive was unexpected. But as she realised who He was, and went to tell others what had happened, for us today the new life we have in Jesus is now unexpectedly expected.

To consider and reflect more on what the resurrection of Jesus means to us and in our lives, have a read, watch, or listen to our Easter Sunday Address.

Good Friday, when what seems like the end of God’s plan to save His people is actually the beginning. Where God takes on our death, our suffering, our abandonment, our punishment, as Jesus dies on the cross for our sakes. To reflect more on the events of Good Friday, and what they mean for our lives and our world today, have a read, watch, or listen to our Good Friday Address.
