Significance of Thaipusam :
Thaipusam is celebrated each year during the full moon in the Tamil month of Thai, which generally falls in January or February. This year, the festival takes place on 1st February. Thaipusam is a special time for devotees to seek blessings from Lord Murugan, asking for good health, prosperity, and forgiveness as they enter the new year. The name βThaipusamβ is derived from two Tamil words: βThai,β referring to the Tamil month, and βPusam,β which signifies the Pusam Nakshatra (Star). The festival commemorates the occasion when Goddess Parvati presented Murugan with a spear, empowering him to vanquish the demon Soorapadman. As we observe Thaipusam, we are reminded of the triumph of good over evil and are encouraged to purify our minds and bodies, embracing positive energy and intentions.
P**l Kudam (Milk Offering) and Rituals
One of the most significant offerings made during Thaipusam is the P**l Kudam, or Milk Offering. This tradition involves carrying milk in a vessel called a kudam (pot), which is typically balanced on the devoteeβs head. The milk is then offered to Lord Murugan, and the priest uses it to perform the sacred P**l Abhishegam ritual.
On this special day, devotees are welcome to participate in the P**l Kudam (Milk Pot) procession within our precinct. The route will commence at the main gate and proceed to the basement of the temple building, where the main ceremony will take place.
Additionally, those who wish to take the βKavadiβ during the P**l Kudam (Milk Pot) procession are most welcome to join in this act of devotion.
Thank you,
with kind regards,
