In 1st Timothy, Paul’s first assignment to new pastor Timothy was to “Guard the Gospel” 🛡️
Here are 6 false or twisted gospels to guard against 🤨
1. The Prosperity Gospel💰
This gospel teaches a “give to get” way of living.
If we live in God’s ways, over time we’ll live in God’s blessing — but giving is not a get rich quick scheme — it’s about honoring God who gave us everything.
2. The Legalism Gospel👨⚖️
Holiness matters — believers are called to walk worthy of the gospel.
But legalism adds rules to God’s word and then judges based on man-made laws.
3. The Universalism Gospel 🌏
Jesus teaches very clearly — not everyone will end up in heaven with the Father.
Our salvation is not based on how good we are, but on how good Jesus is.
4. The Self-Help Gospel🤳
The gospel is not a TED talk of three tips for a better you — this is why we teach through the Bible in series — not just cherry picked motivational speeches.
We don’t follow Jesus because he makes life better, we follow him because he is better than life.
5. The Works Based Gospel 💪
Grace is the root of our salvation — works are the fruit of our salvation.
We are not saved because of our good works — we are saved to do good works.
6. The Tolerance Gospel 🏳️🌈
Tolerance of wrong thinking is not a Biblical value.
True love doesn’t “tolerate” lies — it points people to the truth in grace (even if it’s painful)
