I often look back at some of the literally hundreds, if not thousands, of articles on the FLI website covering a wide variety of subjects and this week I’d like you to indulge me, as we republish 2 articles written by myself. There’s often things I think I’d like to put in writing but time is always a problem and we have usually had writers who are more proficient than I am. This week however you have to suffer with my own writing.

The first article was written 14+ years ago after the family conference in Albury in January 2012. There are mentions of things yet to happen; same s*x marriage and the Helpers of God’s Precious Infants and 40 Days for Life Apostolates which have been severely hampered by so called “safe access zones” of 150 metres in Australia. However these do continue and the style of such apostolates is the way we need to follow if we are to end abortion and all the other evils in this world. This article reflects the thinking I have been expressing more recently also on the way forward and the need for a seriously new evangelisation, rather than any more doomed to fail political campaigns. Our approach at FLI hasn’t changed. Please indulge me by reading this article and passing on your own thoughts and reflections on this and on the way forward.

The second article is a reflection on Fatherhood and was written 6 years ago. Much of the crisis in the world and The Church can be traced back to problems of fatherhood. It has been a common theme for me in the pro-life, pro-family apostolate for as long as I have been involved. In fact I remember doing a talk at the Human Life International (as we were then called) Conference in Brisbane in 2001 on Fatherhood. Not sure if there’s a recording of that anywhere? This article was written after Pope Francis had called for a “Year of St Joseph” from the Feast of The Immaculate Conception on December 8th 2020 to mark the 150 year anniversary of Pope Pius IX’s declaration on St Joseph as Patron of the Universal Church. Hopefully fathers will find some inspiration from this article. Again I ask your indulgence to read this and pass on any feedback.

Today we continue the series of articles written by a friend Mr Mark Halliday Sutherland whose grandfather, Dr Halliday Sutherland was sued by the infamous Marie Stopes, for correctly identifying her writings and programs as eugenic. Eventually this Court action ended at The House of Lords and was settled in Dr Sutherland’s favour. When Mark learned of this, he decided to dig deeper into the issue and has published a book “Exterminating Poverty”which I’m hoping to be able to provide to those who would like a copy. He has now written a series of articles beginning with Thomas Malthus and his errors that have been propagated to fuel the contraceptive/abortion holocaust as well as to promote euthanasia. The next article in this series is titled: “A Legacy of Really Really Bad Ideas; Part 2."

These articles get to the heart of the mission of FLI and our original work envisioned by our founders, Mrs Gail Instance, Mr Bede MacDougall and Mr Bern Sadler. They saw the impossibility of ending abortion if the problem of contraception wasn’t addressed. Here we have the beginning of the war on the family! Mark Halliday explains thus: "Using both Stopes’ and Sutherland’s personal papers, court documents and the transcript of the trial, I added the true facts that had been omitted, minimised or obfuscated in the biographies of Stopes.” Please read this article.

Our second article in this issue is from Fr Brian Harrison OS. This article explains the ends of Marriage from a more traditional view of Primary and Secondary ends, however, it is explained by analogy in very understandable terms for the average lay person. I suspect, (as do many others) that the abandoning of this traditional formula to explain the ends of Marriage has contributed to many of the moral problems we have in the world today. I strongly encourage you to read this excellent article.

Article this week is from our very good friend Father Pius Mary Noonan OSB and was given as a homily last Sunday 17th after Pentecost in the traditional calendar. As I have often said we will not overcome the evils in this world without Almighty God. Surely no-one is in any doubt anymore that the many various evils being promoted and defended by Governments around the world such as abortion, homos*xuality, gender dysphoria, euthanasia and not to mention the widespread blasphemy that seems to be part of the conversational language of so many these days, are in fact inspired and encouraged by satan and his demons?

Father Pius has taken some great lessons from the Gospel of this Sunday for us to contemplate and to ask ourselves how close we are to following the two great Commandments? We firstly need to be living a seriously Catholic life if we are to bring anyone else to follow Jesus Christ. Secondly we need to be able to “defend the faith that is in us.” Peter 3:15 and that requires the resources to educate ourselves and then others.

Please sign and share this petition organised by Archbishop Fisher and the Sydney Archdiocese against the ongoing funding of the so called "divine playhouse" mockery of the Catholic Faith. This exposes the State Governments hypocrisy when it comes to "tolerance and acceptance" which it seems only applies to some religions and cultures. Imagine such an event mocking Judaism or Islam?

Blessed Sunday all. Thanks to those who joined us yesterday for our monthly Saturday morning pro-life prayer vigil.

It was a blessing to have Fr Soares FSSP say mass, lead us in the prayers on the street and offer a blessing at the end. God bless our priests!
