'The Life Of Faith (pt. 2)' - Pastor Meli Usumaki
1 Corinthians 13:13
"And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love."
Continuing from his preaching last Sunday, Pastor Meli highlighted the importance and the difference between faith and hope.
Not only is faith believing in God, but it is also about being faithful and loyal to God, standing by his side no matter the circumstances. In faith we never change our confession, declaration or the things that we are believing God for.
Hope talks about expecting good things but expecting them from God. Anything good that you are hoping for that is not from God is nothing more than wishful thinking.
Faith is the assurance, the substance and the underlying basis of the things hoped for. Faith talks about the now, hope talks about the future. Our faith is kept in our hearts, hope is found in the mind. Faith and hope are not substitutes for one another.
Pastor Meli challenged us to discern whether we are hoping for things or believing in faith that it will happen. When the Word of God comes and stops in the mind, then you are only hoping that those things will come to pass. There is no basis of faith.
1 Thessalonians 5:8 teaches us that hope works in the realm of the mind and it is the hope of God that protects us from hopelessness and despair. Faith and love work in the heart and it is there where righteousness is produced.
Jesus is the author and the finisher of faith, the Apostle and the High Priest. He began the work of faith in our lives and will one day perfect it and finish it. Until that day comes, it is important that we as believers continue to live out in faith in everything that we do.
