🎾 Setting Ourselves to Serve

This Sunday we begin our three-week Spring school holiday series, turning our attention to one of the basic personal disciplines of the Christian life: service.

There are all sorts of ways we can serve, with different gifts, opportunities and roles — but the same Lord is at work in and through each one, for the common good.

Over these three weeks, we’ll consider what it means to set ourselves to serve: freely, faithfully and for the Lord.

Come and enjoy a cuppa, something sweet or savoury, and the opportunity to spend time in conversation and fellowship with one another.

Thank you, Don! ❤️

As Don finishes up his time on staff at St John’s, we want to say a big thank you for all that he has contributed to the life of our church family.

We’re particularly grateful for the way Don has invested in our youth and young adults, as well as the many other ways he has served, taught and encouraged us. His enthusiasm and joy in the Lord have been a real gift to St John’s.

We thank God for Don and his time among us, and pray that the Lord will guide and direct his path in whatever comes next.

Today we give thanks for the fathers, grandfathers and father figures among us, and for the many ways they love, serve, encourage and care for those around them.

We’re especially thankful for our heavenly Father, whose love and faithfulness never fail.

Our next General Training session is coming up on Sunday 13 September, 2:00–3:30pm, for anyone who serves—or might be interested in serving—across our Sunday gatherings.

Even if you've been serving for years, please do come along! A refresher every now and then is good for all of us, helping us serve confidently, consistently and well.

And if there's something you've never tried before, this is a great opportunity to learn the ropes and perhaps give something new a go.

👧 Who better to run the Kids Spot than the kids?!

A few weeks ago, some of our Kids Church kids took over the Kids Spot at our 10am service—and did a brilliant job!

After all, if the Kids Spot is for the kids, why should the adults get to have all the fun? 😄

We love seeing our kids not only learning and growing in faith, but having opportunities to participate in the life of our church too. ❤️

Prayer is one of the simplest and most important things we do as God's people.

Our new weekly Prayer Gathering has begun. Each Thursday at 2pm, we gather to pray for our church, our community, and the world, with a different focus each week.

Come and join us as we commit these things to the Lord together.

🌍 Mission Partner Spotlight | The Gideons

It was great to hear from The Gideons this past Sunday and learn more about their ministry of sharing God's Word in Australia and around the world.

Please continue to pray that as Bibles and New Testaments are distributed, many people would come to know the hope of the gospel through reading God's Word.

⛪ Remembering the Storm. Celebrating God's Faithfulness.

Last Sunday, our church family gathered to mark 100 years since the 1926 tornado that destroyed our original church building.

It was a joyful morning as we remembered God's faithfulness across the past century, gave thanks for the resilience and generosity of those who rebuilt, and celebrated the work that God continues to do amongst us today.

We were honoured to welcome Archbishop Ric Thorpe as our guest preacher, and enjoyed celebrating together over morning tea after the service.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for this special milestone in the life of St John's.
