Hidden in Plain Sight: The Mark of God

Did you know the Book of Revelation is deeply rooted in the Old Testament? Sometimes when we slow down and look closely, we find God has hidden fascinating treasures in Scripture.

In Revelation 7 and 14, we read about 144,000 servants of God who are sealed, those marked on their foreheads with the name of God and the Lamb.

This image comes straight from Ezekiel 9:4, where God commands an angel to go through Jerusalem and "put a mark on the foreheads" of those who grieve over sin, the faithful remnant set apart by God.

But here's where it gets interesting.

The Hebrew word used for "mark" in Ezekiel is taw (ת) — the last letter of the Hebrew alphabet. And in the ancient paleo-Hebrew script used in Ezekiel's day, the letter taw was written as...

✝ a cross. ➕ A plus sign. An ✖️.

The people of God, set apart by Him in Ezekiel, were literally marked with the shape of a cross.

And when Revelation echoes that same imagery centuries later, the sealed saints bearing the mark of their God, it's pointing to the very same sign.

Long before Calvary, God was marking His people with the cross.

When you notice connections like this, passages written centuries apart speak to each other. And sometimes even the small details, even a single letter, can carry meaning you might not expect.
