Patronage: forgotten people, in-law problems, loss of parents, parents separated from children, widows
Born to the nobility, Jane was raised by her father after the death of her mother. Jane married at age 20, had 4 children and was widowed at age 28. Forced to live with her father-in-law, she spent much time in prayer and received a vision of a man who would become her spiritual director. The man was St. Francis de Sales. She became his spiritual student and close friend. In 1610 she founded the Order of the Visitation of Our Lady for widows and lay women who did not wish the full life of the orders.

Blessed Father Michael McGivney
1852-1890
Feast Day: August 13
Patron and Founder of the Knights of Columbus
Father Michael McGivney was born in 1852 in Connecticut to Irish immigrants. He was ordained in 1877 and served the large Irish-American Community. In 1882, he started the Knights of Columbus, which provided mutual aid and fraternal support to the families who lost their breadwinner. His vision empowered the laity to serve the church and its neighbors. Today it’s one of the largest Catholic Fraternal organizations worldwide. Father McGivney died in a pandemic of pneumonia, like the coronavirus of today.

A Chicago, dove Papa Leone XIV nacque il 14 settembre 1955, è presente una parrocchia dedicata alla Madonna di Pompei: Shrine of Our Lady of Pompeii.

La parrocchia fu fondata nel 1911 per accogliere la grande ondata di immigrati italiani, soprattutto campani. Tra il 1923 e il 1924 l'edificio sacro fu costruito e dedicato a Maria, Regina del Rosario. Sempre nel 1924 fu affidato alle cure dei Padri Scalabriniani.

Il 10 ottobre 1994 il Cardinale Joseph Bernardin ha elevato la Chiesa a Santuario mentre, dieci anni più tardi, fu donata alla comunità una reliquia di San Bartolo a suggellare il legame con il Santuario di Pompei. La reliquia è oggi custodita nell'altare dedicato all'Apostolo del Rosario, inaugurato nell'ottobre 2016 e costruito grazie ai Cavalieri e alle Dame dell'Ordine Equestre del Santo Sepolcro di Gerusalemme (Luogotenenza USA North Central). Peraltro lo stesso campanile fu costruito sul modello del campanile di Pompei edificato da Longo e dedicato al Sacro Cuore.

Nel Santuario di Chicago, era spesso in preghiera Madre Francesca Saverio Cabrini, devotissima alla Madonna di Pompei e patrona dei migranti.
