A Beautiful Farewell in Tuncurry

A beautiful service held in Tuncurry, bringing family and friends together to remember, reflect and celebrate a life that meant so much.

At Great Lakes Funerals, we’re privileged to help families across Tuncurry, Forster and the Great Lakes create meaningful funeral services in the places that feel right for them.

Every farewell is different, because every life has its own story.

Some farewells take us a little further from home, but distance is never the most important part of the journey.

Recently, Lloyd and Bryce from Great Lakes Funerals travelled more than 550 kilometres on a 10-hour round trip to Denman in the Hunter Valley, accompanying a family as they laid someone they loved to rest.

Their destination was Denman Cemetery, surrounded by the quiet Australian bush and the history of a community whose stories stretch back generations.

There was no chapel and no elaborate setting. Just family gathered beneath the trees, chairs beside the graveside, words shared, memories honoured, and the Great Lakes Funerals hearse standing quietly nearby.

For us, caring for a family doesn’t end at the boundaries of Forster or Tuncurry. If a final resting place holds meaning for the person who has died and the people who love them, we understand why making that journey matters.

550 kilometres. 10 hours. One very important farewell.

It was a privilege for Lloyd and Bryce to make the journey and help this family bring their loved one home to their final resting place.

Celebrating 40 Years of Great Lakes FM.

What a fantastic milestone for a much-loved part of our local community!

Last Saturday, the Great Lakes Funerals team had the pleasure of joining Great Lakes FM 101.5 to celebrate an incredible 40 years of broadcasting across the Great Lakes and Myall Coast.

As a proud sponsor of Great Lakes FM, we were delighted to be invited along with many other local businesses, community groups and supporters who have been part of the station’s journey.

It was a wonderful night filled with great food, live entertainment, plenty of laughs and, most importantly, a celebration of the people who have kept local radio alive and connected with our community for four decades.

Happy 40th Birthday, Great Lakes FM! Here’s to many more years on the air. 🎙️

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us for our Dying to Know Expo in Forster last night.

It was wonderful to see so many people from our community come together to have open, honest conversations about topics we can sometimes find difficult to talk about, including funeral planning, end-of-life choices, palliative care, wills, memorials and the support available to families.

We’d also like to thank all of the local organisations, professionals and community groups who gave their time to be part of the evening and share their knowledge and resources. Your involvement helped make the event informative, welcoming and, most importantly, approachable.

And to everyone who attended, asked questions, stopped for a chat or simply came along to learn, thank you. Events like Dying to Know are about making conversations around death and dying a little less daunting, so that people can feel more informed and confident about the choices available to them and their families.

We loved seeing the conversations happening around the room, and we hope everyone left knowing a little more than when they arrived.

Thank you, Forster, for being part of such an important community conversation.

Getting ready for Dying to Know Day.

Even the hearse is getting the VIP treatment!

Our General Manager, Lloyd, has been busy making sure everything is looking its best ahead of our Dying to Know event this Thursday.

Dying to Know Day is about opening up conversations that we often put off. Conversations about end-of-life wishes, funeral planning, grief and what matters to us when the time comes.

It doesn’t need to be uncomfortable or confronting. Sometimes, simply starting the conversation can make things a little easier for everyone.

We’re looking forward to welcoming our community this Thursday, sharing information, answering questions and creating a relaxed space where you can talk openly about the things we don’t always talk about.

We’re getting ready for Dying to Know this Thursday.

The room is taking shape, the welcome bags are ready, and local professionals are preparing to join us for an evening of open, practical conversation.

Dying to Know is a free community event where you can meet local professionals, ask questions and learn more about planning ahead, end-of-life choices and the support available in our community.

There’s no pressure and no awkwardness.
Just useful conversations in a relaxed, welcoming environment.

Come along, have a chat and leave feeling a little more informed about the things many of us know we should talk about, but often don’t know where to begin.
