On the evening of December 24, 2024 (Christmas Eve), and into the early hours of December 25, 2024 (Christmas Day), His Grace Bishop Kyriakos of Melbourne presided over the Matins and Hierarchical Divine Liturgy for the Feast of the Nativity of Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ at the Greek Orthodox Church of St Catherine in Malvern East, Melbourne, VIC.
Co-serving with His Grace were the Parish Priest, Fr George Adamakis, and the Parish Assistant Priest, Fr Kyriakos Tsapas.
Also present at the service was the Consulate General of Greece in Melbourne, Mr. Emmanuel Kakavelakis.
During the Liturgy, His Grace read the Christmas message of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, followed by Fr. George, who read the Christmas message from His All-Holiness Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople.
At the conclusion of the Liturgy, Fr. George and Bishop Kyriakos bid farewell to Mr. Emmanuel Kakavelakis, as his term as Consul General in Melbourne will end in the new year of 2025, with his departure from Australia. As a thoughtful gesture and Christmas gift, Fr. George presented Mr. Kakavelakis with an icon of the Nativity of Our Lord Jesus Christ.
Lastly, His Grace extended warm wishes for a safe and Blessed Christmas and conveyed the blessings and good wishes of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia to all present.
