WHERE WAS GOD WHEN SATAN WAS TEMPTING EVE 🤔?
Most people ask the wrong question.
They do not ask: "What was Satan doing in Eden?"
Instead, they ask:
"Where was God?"
But the truth is that God never left Eden.
God was there.
His voice was still echoing through the garden. His presence filled every inch of the created world. Satan did not enter Eden because God had lost control. He entered because God allowed man to have something He did not give even to the angels: free choice.
God did not create robots.
He created beings capable of love.
And love without choice is not love.
That is precisely why, from the very beginning, in the middle of a perfect paradise, stood a tree.
Not because God wanted man to fall.
But because without the possibility of disobedience, obedience has no value.
Satan did not come with a sword.
He did not come with force.
He did not push Eve toward the tree.
He simply asked a question:
"Did God really say...?"
That was the first attack on the human mind.
The first attack on trust.
The first attack on God's character.
Satan never begins by denying God.
He begins with doubt.
Because he knows that if he makes man doubt God's goodness, sin has already taken root.
It was as if he was saying to Eve:
"If God really loves you, why did He forbid you anything? What if He is hiding something from you? What if you do not know the whole truth?"
He used the exact same strategy against Jesus in the wilderness.
Just moments before, the heavens opened and the Father said:
"This is My beloved Son."
And Satan's first words were:
"If you are the Son of God..."
Do you notice?
He omitted the word "beloved."
Because Satan's ultimate goal is not for man to sin immediately.
His first goal is for man to forget that he is loved by God.
The Bible tells us that Adam and Eve were created perfect.
Without fear.
Without guilt.
Without death.
Without shame.
They lived in intimate fellowship with their Creator.
But even before the fall of man, another fall had already taken place.
The fall of Lucifer.
Created beautiful, filled with glory, but destroyed by his own pride.
He did not just want to be like God.
He wanted to be God himself.
And the exact same poison that destroyed him, he offered to man:
"You will be like God."
That is the oldest lie in history.
And it is still alive today.
Whenever a person thinks that they do not need God, that they will decide for themselves what is good and what is evil, they are standing before the same tree once again.
Eve saw the fruit.
Good for food.
Pleasing to the eyes.
Desirable because it promised wisdom.
Sin always looks attractive before it reveals its price.
She ate.
And she gave some to Adam.
And then something happened that had never existed before.
Their eyes were opened.
Not to divinity.
But to their own fall.
The nakedness they had not noticed before now became a source of shame.
Fear, which had never existed, became their new companion.
Guilt drove them away from God.
They hid among the trees.
How strange...
Man hiding from the One who created him.
Then God asked one of the most powerful questions in the entire Bible:
"Where are you?"
Not because He did not know where Adam was.
But because Adam no longer knew where he himself was.
That question still echoes through the centuries today.
Not just to Adam.
But to every human being.
Where are you?
Far from God?
Trapped in fear?
In pride?
In sin?
In doubt?
Adam blamed Eve.
Eve blamed the serpent.
That is the nature of fallen man.
Always looking for someone to blame.
Rarely seeking repentance.
The consequences were terrible.
Death entered the world.
Pain became a part of life.
The earth was struck by the curse.
But right at the moment when the judgment was the heaviest, God also revealed the first hope.
In Genesis 3:15, the first prophecy about Christ was given.
The offspring of the woman would one day crush the serpent's head.
Evil will not win forever.
Before sending them out of Eden, God did not leave them in their shame.
He made garments of skin for them.
That was the first sacrifice.
The first picture showing that sin cannot be covered by human works, but requires a price.
Later, that price would be paid once and for all on Calvary.
That is why the Bible is not a book that begins with defeat.
It begins with the fall of man, but at the very same moment reveals God's plan of salvation.
From Eden to the Cross stretches the exact same message:
God never stops seeking man.
While man hides, God calls.
While Satan lies, God speaks the truth.
While sin brings death, God offers life.
And that is why the biggest question today is not:
"Where was God?"
Instead, it is:
"Where are you?"
For God still calls today with the same voice that echoed through the Garden of Eden.
And the answer to that call is found in the words of the Lord Jesus Christ:
"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." (John 3:16)
