From a sermon by Saint Augustine
A new creation in Christ

I speak to you who have just been reborn in baptism, my little children in Christ, you who are the new offspring of the Church, gift of the Father, proof of Mother Church’s fruitfulness. All of you who stand fast in the Lord are a holy seed, a new colony of bees, the very flower of our ministry and fruit of our toil, my joy and my crown. It is the words of the Apostle that I address to you: Put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh and its desires, so that you may be clothed with the life of him whom you have put on in this sacrament. You have all been clothed with Christ by your baptism in him. There is neither Jew nor Greek; there is neither slave nor freeman; there is neither male nor female; you are all one in Christ Jesus.
Such is the power of this sacrament: it is a sacrament of new life which begins here and now with the forgiveness of all past sins, and will be brought to completion in the resurrection of the dead. You have been buried with Christ by baptism into death in order that, as Christ has risen from the dead, you also may walk in newness of life.
You are walking now by faith, still on pilgrimage in a mortal body away from the Lord; but he to whom your steps are directed is himself the sure and certain way for you: Jesus Christ, who for our sake became man. For all who fear him he has stored up abundant happiness, which he will reveal to those who hope in him, bringing it to completion when we have attained the reality which even now we possess in hope.
This is the octave day of your new birth. Today is fulfilled in you the sign of faith that was prefigured in the Old Testament by the circumcision of the flesh on the eighth day after birth. When the Lord rose from the dead, he put off the mortality of the flesh; his risen body was still the same body, but it was no longer subject to death. By his resurrection he consecrated Sunday, or the Lord’s day. Though the third after his passion, this day is the eighth after the Sabbath, and thus also the first day of the week.
And so your own hope of resurrection, though not yet realised, is sure and certain, because you have received the sacrament or sign of this reality, and have been given the pledge of the Spirit. If, then, you have risen with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your hearts on heavenly things, not the things that are on earth. For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, your life, appears, then you too will appear with him in glory.

A feast of Divine Mercy (this Sunday)

To celebrate this feast we will have Holy Hour tomorrow,
Saturday from 2.30pm to 3.30pm.
During Adoration we will pray A Chaplet of Divine Mercy
and there will be an opportunity for reconciliation.

Saint Faustina Kowalska (1905–1938) was a Polish
nun and mystic, best known for spreading the message of Divine Mercy.
She was born in central Poland; she came from a poor, devout Catholic
family, she had only a few years of formal education and worked as
a domestic servant before entering religious life.
In 1925, she joined the Congregation of the Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy
in Warsaw, taking the name Sister Maria Faustina. She lived a humble life
as a cook, gardener, and porter in several convents.
Faustina reported profound visions of Jesus Christ, who revealed to her
the message of God’s mercy for all people. She was asked by Jesus
to promote trust in God’s mercy, encourage acts of mercy toward others
and spread devotion to the Divine Mercy.Her spiritual experiences were
recorded in her diary, later published as Diary: Divine Mercy in My Soul,
now a classic of Christian spirituality.
Through her visions came key elements of the devotion:
The Divine Mercy image (“Jesus, I trust in You”),
The Chaplet of Divine Mercy and Divine Mercy Sunday
(celebrated on the first Sunday after Easter)
She died young, at age 33, in Kraków from tuberculosis.
She was canonized in year 2000.
Saint Faustina is remembered as the “Apostle of Divine Mercy,”
calling the world to trust in God’s mercy and to show mercy to others.
The words of Jesus from her “Diary” (so relevant to our times):
“Mankind will not have peace until it turns with trust to My Mercy,
Diary 300
“I desire trust from My creatures”, Diary1059

“At three o'clock, implore My mercy, especially for sinners;
and, if only for a brief moment, immerse yourself in My Passion,
particularly in My abandonment at the moment of agony.
This is the hour of great mercy for the whole world.
I will allow you to enter into My mortal sorrow”.
Eternal God, in Whom mercy is endless and the treasury of compassion
— inexhaustible, look kindly upon us and increase Your mercy in us,
that in difficult moments we might not despair nor become despondent,
but with great confidence submit ourselves to Your holy will, which is Love
and Mercy itself.

Stations of Light or Stations of Resurrection
(Via LUCIS),

Please join us and pray with us this new way of living out Easter joy tomorrow, Friday 10th April followed by 9.00am Mass.

A devotion that St John Paul II was advocating for during his papacy,
introducing five new Mysteries to the traditional 15 Mysteries of the recitation of the Rosary, the Mysteries of Light (Luminous).
In a same way he wanted to introduce Stations of Light during Easter Season in opposition to The Stations of the Cross that we use during Lent.
This is a new way, or one of, to celebrate joy, truth and hope flowing form Jesus resurrection.
In 1988 the Salesian priests in Italy started VIA LUCIS, or Stations of Light, or Stations of Resurrection.
They have been inspired by the frescoes at the Catacombs of St Callixtus in Rome depicting The Resurrection of Christ who walks it of darkness into the light. This prayer became popular in Italy.
In the Jubilee Year of 2000, it was included in the official prayer book and in 2002 The Congregation for Divine Worship accepted this new form of devotion.
Via Lucis has a similar idea to the Stations of the Cross, but instead of reflecting on the suffering of Jesus, it looks at his victory over sin, darkness and death.
The Stations of Light help us to meet Resurrected Christ as we reflect on a particular passages of Scripture proclaiming the Good News of Resurrection.

From an ancient homily for Holy Saturday
The Lord's descent into the underworld

Something strange is happening – there is a great silence on earth today, a great silence and stillness. The whole earth keeps silence because the King is asleep. The earth trembled and is still because God has fallen asleep in the flesh and he has raised up all who have slept ever since the world began. God has died in the flesh and hell trembles with fear.
He has gone to search for our first parent, as for a lost sheep. Greatly desiring to visit those who live in darkness and in the shadow of death, he has gone to free from sorrow the captives Adam and Eve, he who is both God and the son of Eve. The Lord approached them bearing the cross, the weapon that had won him the victory. At the sight of him Adam, the first man he had created, struck his breast in terror and cried out to everyone: “My Lord be with you all.” Christ answered him: “And with your spirit.” He took him by the hand and raised him up, saying: “Awake, O sleeper, and rise from the dead, and Christ will give you light.”
I am your God, who for your sake have become your son. Out of love for you and for your descendants I now by my own authority command all who are held in bo***ge to come forth, all who are in darkness to be enlightened, all who are sleeping to arise. I order you, O sleeper, to awake. I did not create you to be held a prisoner in hell. Rise from the dead, for I am the life of the dead. Rise up, work of my hands, you who were created in my image. Rise, let us leave this place, for you are in me and I am in you; together we form only one person and we cannot be separated. For your sake I, your God, became your son; I, the Lord, took the form of a slave; I, whose home is above the heavens, descended to the earth and beneath the earth. For your sake, for the sake of man, I became like a man without help, free among the dead. For the sake of you, who left a garden, I was betrayed to the Jews in a garden, and I was crucified in a garden.
See on my face the spittle I received in order to restore to you the life I once breathed into you. See there the marks of the blows I received in order to refashion your warped nature in my image. On my back see the marks of the scourging I endured to remove the burden of sin that weighs upon your back. See my hands, nailed firmly to a tree, for you who once wickedly stretched out your hand to a tree.
I slept on the cross and a sword pierced my side for you who slept in paradise and brought forth Eve from your side. My side has healed the pain in yours. My sleep will rouse you from your sleep in hell. The sword that pierced me has sheathed the sword that was turned against you.
Rise, let us leave this place. The enemy led you out of the earthly paradise. I will not restore you to that paradise, but I will enthrone you in heaven. I forbade you the tree that was only a symbol of life, but see, I who am life itself am now one with you. I appointed cherubim to guard you as slaves are guarded, but now I make them worship you as God. The throne formed by cherubim awaits you, its bearers swift and eager. The bridal chamber is adorned, the banquet is ready, the eternal dwelling places are prepared, the treasure houses of all good things lie open. The kingdom of heaven has been prepared for you from all eternity.
