This week at St Mark's Ermington we continue in Ephesians 4:17-32 - Putting on the New Self. The world seems like a dark place full of despair and futility.

BUT, as the new family of God, heirs of the promise, we are called to " no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking." Essentially, not to live as one who does know God and his Messiah, Jesus, but to live in a way that is more the way God intends us to live looking to eternity and the purpose God wants for us.

This is a July School Holidays Program that runs 15, 16, 17 July from 9am-12:00pm for Children in Preschool (age 3) up to Year 6 in Primary School which will take place up at our sister church, Eastwood Anglican. We have lots of great Bible-learning experiences, science fun, games, food and songs, that will help us find out all about our great God and his son Jesus.

All families who attend VKP are invited to attend a free BBQ after the morning program on the 17th July.

We will also have a special VKP Family Sunday service on the 19th July which will take the place after our regular Eastwood Anglican 9:30 English service. The whole family can get a taste of VKP along with the rest of our church.

Early Bird Rate: $15/day per child, or $40 for all days (SUNDAY is free!). There is a family special rate of $30/day per family, or $80 for all days

Did you know...
In 1983, St Mark's Ermington celebrated their centenary with many activities including a Dinner and a Garden. Most notably they held a service attended by over 200 people. That many were never going to fit inside the tiny church, so it was held in the grounds of the church. Thankfully, it was a lovely day!

One of the hymns sung at that service was "Thy Hand O God Has Guided" which we actually sang yesterday at our 7th June 8:30am Service on the King's birthday weekend.

What a wonderful way to remember that it is the King of King's guidance that helps us each day and has done so for the many years that St. Mark's Ermington has been in Kissing Point Road. In 2026, our church building is 143 years old! But we are part of the one Church, one faith, one Lord.

1 Thy hand, O God, has guided
thy flock, from age to age;
the wondrous tale is written,
full clear, on every page;
our fathers owned thy goodness,
and we their deeds record;
and both of this bear witness:
one Church, one faith, one Lord.

2 Thy heralds brought glad tidings
to greatest, as to least;
they bade men rise, and hasten
to share the great King's feast;
and this was all their teaching,
in every deed and word,
to all alike proclaiming
one Church, one faith, one Lord.

3 And we, shall we be faithless?
Shall hearts fail, hands hang down?
Shall we evade the conflict,
and cast away our crown?
Not so: in God's deep counsels
some better thing is stored;
we will maintain, unflinching,
one church, one faith, one Lord.

4 Thy mercy will not fail us,
nor leave thy work undone;
with thy right hand to help us,
the victory shall be won;
and then, by men and angels,
thy name shall be adored,
and this shall be their anthem:
one Church, one faith, one Lord.

This week at St Mark's Ermington we venture into Ephesians 4:1-16. The theme is UNITY, or ONENESS.

Ephesians 4:3-6
Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.

If you listen to Queen's song "One Vision" it was inspired by the hope there could be unity in this world. But the Bible tells us, there is only one way for unity and that is in God, the Spirit and Christ.

Did you know...
In the 1960’s or 1970s St. Mark's Ermington purchased a Thomas “Color Glo” organ for services in the Chapel building. By 2011 it was in desperate need of repair and in April 2017, John Leicester Fullagar gave a frank, candid and forthright assessment of the organ.

The Thomas “Color-glo” organ was designed in such a way that coloured lights in the keys could help a new organist learn to play. John described it as a “gimmick” and “any accomplished organist (or who aspires to be one) would find the device frustrating, limiting and challenging”.

In 2017 it had an intrusive hum that made the Organ sound more like bad bagpipes than an organ; some keys worked intermittently and an unstable swell pedal meant that controlling the volume was difficult. Although still in service, in the 2020s it was permanently retired and removed.

It's sitting in our storage room hoping that someone will take it, fix it and enjoy it again. Let is know if you would like it!

At St Mark's Ermington this week we venture into Ephesians 3 and look at the mystery made known in Christ that was hidden from earlier generations. The evidence was there in the Old Testament but it was made clear with the arrival of Jesus.

Zechariah 2:10 “Shout and be glad, Daughter Zion. For I am coming, and I will live among you,” declares the Lord.
