This week at St. Mark's Ermington we join our sister church at Eastwood for the 10am Thanksgiving Service and lunch. HENCE, there will be no services at St Mark's.

Join us for our parish-wide Thanksgiving: the annual celebration of church fellowship across nine congregations and four languages (English, Mandarin, Cantonese and Korean). We come together as one to give thanks for each other and God's kindness to us. We also look forward to the next year of ministry and mission in Eastwood, Ermington, Rydalmere, Melrose Park and a little bit more!

We will then have lunch together.

Did you know...
Over the years, the buildings on our site have evolved and extended, but sometimes plans do not come to fruition. Over the next few weeks we'll look at plans that were not in God's plan for our church.

In the early 1970s, the St Mark’s Church building was extended to the west. A porch and roof out over the driveway was added over the Church entrance. When doing this the old church bell situated in front of the church entrance had to be removed. The original plans for the porch extension show the intention to include a small bell tower to the roof of the original building. The cost was prohibitive so the bell was mounted elsewhere.

This week at St Mark's Ermington we continue our Deuteronomy series looking at Chapter 12:1-32. We will look at the Place of Worship.

The Israelites, as they were about to enter the Promised Land, were being called to worship the Lord God in ways that were different from the other nations. Likewise, Christians, who have been sanctified by the blood of Christ and have the Law of God written on their hearts, can confidently come near to God with a sincere heart full of confidence.

At St Mark's Ermington we regularly pray for our community and church family. Join us in prayerful consideration of our Church's Parish Council who volunteer their time to look after the business side of church life.

We pray that, as they meet next week, they will be lead by God to make good decisions on our finances, church properties and maintenance. We also thank them for their service and all the jobs they do behind the scenes.

Welcome to Spring! And since it's the first week of the month, it is also our First Sunday lunch at St Mark's Church after the 10am service.

Why not join us at 10am for our Family Service and stay for a special Father's Day Lunch at 12pm? Bring enough food for yourself and a bit more, to share - main meal, dessert or drink.

What a reminder that even us, as sinners, know how to give good things to our children:
Matthew 7:11b So surely your heavenly Father will give good things to those who ask him.

Did you know...
Reverend Frederic Barker Mullens was an Honorary Curate at St Luke's Rydalmere from 1945-1963. It was due to his generosity that St. Luke's Rydalmere had land on which to build their church (before it was later moved to it's current location at St. Mark's Ermington).

Rev Mullens married Rosalie Honoria Watkins in 1914 and in 1918 at the age of 35, he enlisted in the AIF. Shipped to Britain he was a Chaplain 4th Class (Captain) for the Church of England in Britain to service those doing Continuous Service at the end of WWI and returned to Australia in 1920.

Before serving he was Rector of St James Church, Smithfield (where he likely returned after WWI) and in 1931-1932 a Curate at All Saints Anglican, North Parramatta.

It was in 1950 he had the vision to start a Sunday School in the Rydalmere Town Hall and that was the beginning of St. Luke's when he came out of retirement. Rosalie passed away in 1959 and Frederic lived until 1981 eventually moving into the Woodberry Retirement Village in Winston Hills.

This week at St Mark's we look at Deuteronomy 7 - 11, "The judgement on the Canaanites - defeater beliefs".

Deuteronomy 11:18-19 NIV Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.

Kids Vibes is our weekly Sunday Kids program that runs during our 10am service. You are welcome to come check it out. Register that you are coming so we know to expect you.
And the adults can stay for the family service. We would love to meet you.

Save the date...
Our annual Thanksgiving Service is a great opportunity for all our various congregations to gather together to worship and praise our one God in whose faith we are unified. 10am - Combined service followed by a combined lunch. This service will be in English, Mandarin, Cantonese, and Korean. At this service there is also the opportunity to give financially towards the special needs and projects beyond our regular budget as a church. Electronic and cash giving is available on the day.

Did you know...
Contribute to the 150th History of St Mark's - History Happens Here and is still being made! Let's make sure our history isn't forgotten. To help with that we'd love your Oral History.

St Mark's Ermington was established in 1883 and turns 150 in 2033! We are preparing a book about the history of the church and want you to be a part of our Celebration of God's faithfulness and His people, so we are gathering the oral history of our church before it is gone forever.

Perhaps you currently attend or once attended St Mark's Ermington or St Luke's Rydalmere. Or perhaps you have a connection to our church through family, friends, weddings, christenings/baptisms or visits. We would love to hear from you via your photos or your recollections.
