On Saturday 22nd August about 40 people gathered at St John Bosco Parish Engadine to learn more about our shared histories of Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians through a workshop experience focussing on truth telling, Truth from the Heart. The workshop was facilitated by Dr Lisa Buxton, Australian Aboriginal Catholic Ministry and Jenny Collins-White , Catholic Mission.
The participants discussed and role played 10 significant characters from Australian history to better understand the interaction with Aboriginal people from various historical periods from colonisation through to protection, segregation, self-determination and reconciliation. This activity helped us to evaluate these characters in terms of how they acted and felt fostering greater empathy for our Indigenous sisters and brothers .
Empowered by the solidarity of others present wanting to journey together in reconciliation , we felt strengthened and motivated to take further action along this pathway of seeking justice for Aboriginal Australians.
It was wonderful to see many people from different walks of life attend and particularly Aunty Dolly who was closely connected to Mum Shirl and Fr Ted Kennedy so could share stories about these 2 significant people.
Thank you also to Lisa from La Perouse Reconciliation Church and Aboriginal Catholic Ministry and Jenny from Catholic Mission for their roles in facilitating this event so well and to the organising committee from St John Bosco parish at Engadine for their detailed organisation of this Truth Telling Event.

Join thousands of Catholics from across Sydney for our annual Eucharistic Procession through the heart of the city.

This year, the Procession moves to the summit of the Church’s calendar. We will carry Christ the King into the streets, making visible His reign of truth, life, holiness, justice, love and peace over every age, every heart.
