What a night. ❤️‍🔥

Last night at Elwood Shule, we came together for a powerful and deeply personal conversation about life before and after October 7 — and what it has meant to find your voice, stand up for our community and keep showing up in the three years since.

A huge thank you to our incredible panelists Simonne Whine, Zara Cooper and Sharon Kuperholz for sharing their stories, their experiences and their honesty. And to our wonderful moderator, Shane Shmuel from the Australian Jewish Association, for guiding such an important conversation with warmth, thoughtfulness and strength.

We were also incredibly honoured to welcome a very special international guest, Dr Brian Cox, who is currently in Melbourne for tomorrow night’s live debate. A leading international voice in military law and one of the most respected experts in the field, Brian took the time to join us and be part of our evening — something we were truly grateful for.

Three years on from October 7, these conversations matter.

Not just to remember what happened, but to understand how it has changed us, how it continues to shape our community, and why finding the courage to speak, advocate and stand together matters more than ever.

🎉🍋 Sukkot, Simchat Torah & plenty of dancing at Elwood Shule! 🍋🎉

What better way to celebrate than with good food, great company and a whole lot of Jewish joy! 💙

We kicked off the festivities with Pre-Simchat Torah Torah dancing, followed by a fantastic Sukkot BBQ for our Elwood Shule community. The kids had a ball on the jumping castle, while everyone enjoyed dinner together in the sukkah — roof firmly on thanks to Melbourne’s unpredictable weather! ☔️😂

From little ones bouncing around to adults dancing, laughing and catching up, it was a beautiful night of community, connection and celebration.

A huge thank you to everyone who came along and helped make the evening so special. Chag Sameach and Chag Torah Sameach! 💙🍋🎶

This morning, our Elwood Shule community came together for Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea in support of the Cancer Council.

It was a truly inspiring and meaningful event, filled with warmth, connection, and powerful stories of courage and resilience.

We were honoured to hear from our guest speakers, Darryl and Elijah Goldman, a remarkable father-and-son duo who have both survived cancer, as well as Rachel Flitman, who courageously overcame cancer not once, but twice. Rachel shared her extraordinary journey, including her first battle with cancer while pregnant with her first child.

Their stories reminded us of the strength of the human spirit and the importance of supporting cancer research, treatment, and those affected by cancer.

Thank you to everyone who attended, donated, volunteered, and helped make this morning such a success. Together, we are making a difference.

*Worldviews and ways of life in Australia*

ANU researchers are exploring how perceptions and ways of thinking (i.e. worldviews) relate to experiences and ways of living (i.e. participation and inclusion) in Australia.
They are seeking respondents for their online anonymous 15-20 min survey from any and all adult Australian citizens and permanent residents living in Australia.
Please make sure you are represented in this meaningful research by completing this fascinating survey and also forwarding it to any others who may be interested. There are $100 vouchers to be won if you complete it!
