Eltham Cemetery Trust

The Eltham Cemetery Trust, established in 1858, selected the existing burial site at Mount Pleasant Road on high ground overlooking the village of Eltham.

Almost 1,000 flags have been placed within the Eltham Cemetery at interment locations of known Australian service men and women.

We recognise and remember the sacrifice these individuals made in serving our country.

The Trust acknowledges volunteers Terry and Sheila Beaton and thanks them for coordinating the flag tribute and their ongoing efforts to identify and honour veterans in cemeteries across the Shire.

Today we pay our respects to all who have served and the incredible sacrifices they made for our nation.

Local resident and retired Colonel Terry Beaton has written a piece for the Eltham District Historical Society Inc "Remembering Lost Local Heroes" for Remembrance Day, with 2020 also being the 75th anniversary year of the end of World War II.

Today we acknowledge the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II, the 15th of August being Victory in the Pacific Day and the official end of WWII for Australians.

Earlier this year, the Eltham Cemetery Trust received a grant from the Victorian Government to install a memorial recognising the numerous veterans who served in World War II who are now resting peacefully in our Cemetery.
