On Sunday we were in Acts 10 — the day the good news of Jesus broke through a barrier no one expected to fall. Two men were changed: Cornelius, a good and devout man who still needed to meet Jesus, and Peter, the faithful follower God was still reshaping.

That's a quietly hopeful thing for all of us. Growth in Christ never stops — and being reshaped by God isn't a sign something's wrong. It's a sign the Spirit is still at work in us.

So this week, a question to sit with: where might God be inviting you to grow, or to see someone differently?

If you'd like to go deeper, the sermon and study guide are below — good on your own or with a few others.

A lovely morning at Echunga Uniting Church today, with around 22 local men gathering for our Men’s Prayer Breakfast — good food, honest conversation, and the kind of fellowship that reminds you why small communities like ours are worth showing up for.

A huge thank you to Patricia and Alan at The Plough Echunga for putting on such a wonderful breakfast for us. Generous, warm, and delicious — as anyone who’s eaten there knows to expect. We’re very grateful.

It was a real privilege to sit around the tables with men of all ages and hear them share about life, family, work, and faith over the long haul. There’s something quietly good about blokes making time for one another.

Thanks to every man who came along, and to The Plough for looking after us so well.

— Nick Tuohy (Senior Pastor, Echunga Uniting Church)

✨ On Sunday at Echunga, we explored a simple but searching question from Acts 6:

What is the “main thing” a church is meant to keep at the centre?

In the middle of growth, pressure, practical needs, and community life, the early church fought to protect two things: prayer 🙏 and the Word of God 📖.

Not because practical care didn’t matter — it deeply mattered — but because without Jesus at the centre, even good things can slowly crowd out the most important things. (Watch/listen to the message in the comments below 🎥)

We reflected on how churches — and all of us personally — can drift into busyness while neglecting the rhythms that actually give life: prayer, Scripture, sharing the good news of Jesus, and walking closely with God.

This week’s study guide is for anyone wanting to go deeper:
• personally
• in a small group
• around the dinner table 🍽️
• or simply in quiet reflection with God 🌿

Whether you’ve followed Jesus for decades, are new to faith, or are simply curious about spiritual life and community, you’re warmly invited to explore with us.

Because the invitation of Acts 6 is still the same:

👉Come back to the centre.
👉Open the Word.
👉Pray again.
👉And watch what God does. ✨

📖 Study guide available below/in comments.

PS — hope you enjoy the sermon mind map too… and please forgive the American spelling of “center” in parts of it 😂🇺🇸

Meet the presenters for Caring Well: The Art of Active Listening

Good listening can change relationships, families, workplaces, and communities - but how well do we actually listen to others?

Caring Well is an initiative to help people care, connect, and communicate more wisely. Here's who's presenting on the night:

- Nicholas Tuohy brings 25 years of pastoral leadership experience walking alongside people through grief, transition, conflict, spiritual searching, and change. With postgraduate training in counselling and supervision, he values the importance of emotional health — in how people relate, care for themselves, and care for one another.

- Amanda Williams brings a rich background in psychology, education, counselling, and therapeutic horticulture. Her work is shaped by curiosity, compassion, hope, and a person-centred approach that helps people feel safe, understood, and more connected to themselves and others.

Together, they will lead a relaxed and practical evening exploring how active listening can strengthen our families, friendships, workplaces, churches, neighbourhoods, and community life. This is not a lecture. It's a warm, practical workshop for anyone who wants to listen better, care better, and show up more thoughtfully for the people around them.

🕊️
In the middle of a busy week, sometimes what we need most is simply to be still.

Our Contemplative Prayer Service is a quiet, unhurried time of Scripture, silence, and prayer — gently guided, with no pressure to perform or participate in any particular way. Just space to slow down and be present to God.

It’s open to everyone — whether you’ve been practising contemplative prayer for years or you’ve never tried it before. If you’re looking for a place to breathe and reorient this week, you’re very welcome to join us.

Today we opened The Hearth. ☕🔥

Coffee. Conversation. Laughter. Welcome.

After church, people lingered, stories were shared, and our new community space began to feel like home.

As we began Acts 1, we were reminded that the church began with a small group gathered together in faith, prayer, and hope. 🙏

That’s our hope for The Hearth too:
a warm place to gather, connect, and belong.

Join us after church any Sunday.
There’s a place for you here. 💛

A few days on from Sunday — how are you travelling?
In the Emmaus Road story, there's a phrase in Luke 24 that keeps surfacing: "We had hoped." Past tense. Cleopas and his companion had hoped Jesus would be the one to redeem Israel — and now that hope felt like a closed door.
Most of us know that phrase from the inside. A prayer that didn't seem to be answered the way we wanted. A loss that reshaped everything. A season where faith felt theoretical rather than alive.
What the passage shows us is that Jesus doesn't wait for us to have it together before he comes alongside us. He met them in their grief and confusion, not in spite of it.
A couple of questions to sit with this week — perhaps over coffee, or in a conversation with someone you trust:
Where in your life right now do you most need to say honestly, "Lord, I don't know where I am"?
Is there something in the Scriptures that has spoken to you recently — a verse, a passage — that has felt like a companion on a hard stretch of road?
One practice worth trying: read Luke 24:13–35 slowly this week, perhaps each day. Before you start, just say: Lord, here I am. See what you notice.

Easter weekend reminded us again of the hope and New Life we have in Jesus. Our church family celebrated with gratitude, joy, and plenty of smiles - especially from the kids during their Easter egg hunt.

We’d love to keep the connection going. Men’s Coffee Morning is on this Thursday at Echunga Trading Co, 9.30am. Come along and bring a mate.
