Thank you to everyone who has been a customer over the years. The time has come to hang up my signal meter and put the ladder away for good.

I was supposed to have retired 10 years ago, but so many people needed me that I kept saying, 'Next Year'. Well, Next Year has finally caught up with my old body, so I thank you all for your support and hope you find someone else as dedicated to finding the cause of your reception problem and fixing it as economically as possible.

Nope, I'm not taking up residence here... well, not yet anyway. But if your TV Antenna has died then maybe it's time to give it a decent burial and fit a new one.
Just like people, TV Antennas DON'T live forever. Yes, some last longer than others but they all die one day.
Now comes the hard part... do you call an antenna specialist to do the job or do you go to the hardware shop, fork out a King's ransom for some U-Beut, fancy-looking thing the salesperson tells you will receive TV from Mars (because it says so on the box), get a ladder, some tools and climb on the roof to change it, all the while the wife is telling you not to fall off... sounds like the perfect weekend job. Of course, there's no guarantee that the expensive antenna you just bought is the right one for your location regardless of what the box says - "Fringe Area", "Multi-Band" "VHF-UHF"... what does all that mean? If you don't understand all that jargon, which way to point the antenna, how to correctly connect it and you don't know why some antennas are horizontally polarised and others are vertically polarized then you are best to leave it all to someone who not only understands all the 'jargon' but also knows which antenna will be best for your situation... hint, it isn't always the biggest and most expensive one. Size DOES matter... but so does frequency, angle, polarisation, bit error ratio and more.
Save yourself the hassle and possibly money and call me (David at Pegasus Digital). With over 40 years of experience, local knowledge (I've lived here for over 35 years), all the equipment (including a ladder 🙂 ) to do the job properly and will guarantee you have the right antenna and the best reception. The best part is you have zero chance of falling off the roof and getting into trouble with the Mrs.
Pick up the phone and call now - 0414 577 753. David

WARNING - RIP-OFFS!! WOULD YOU EXPECT TO PAY $865 FOR A NEW TV ANTENNA?
I had a call from a lady at Beenleigh Neighbourhood Centre earlier, asking if I would consider $865 to replace the TV antenna, a few metres of cable, a new socket and flylead to be excessive? She said she had a call from an elderly lady she knows who just got charged $865 to replace her old TV Antenna.
Is The Pope a Catholic?
Damned right I would consider it to be excessive (unless it was made of gold, which won't work any better and may not be there tomorrow if someone saw it)... nearly 3 times what it should have cost.
What is it with people who see everyone (and especially the elderly) as a cash cow to be ripped off? Apparently, it was some National Franchise company (I won't mention the name, but I have heard of them and their ridiculous prices) because they wanted to know what state she lived in as they service every capital city. That alone should tell you they will charge like wounded bulls!
In the past month, I have had 4 customers who were quoted similar ridiculous prices and in every case, I did the job for less than 1/3 of what the others quoted.
Sure, we all have costs to cover and have to make a $ at the end of the day but consider that the median price for a TV Antenna is between $80 and $150 (plus fitting etc). Even allowing $65 for extra materials, that's $700 for an hour's labour. Please tell me who is worth $700 an hour? I have heard of people being told the antenna itself is $400! NO WAY!! There is no antenna on the market that retails for $400 or anywhere near it - that's just the installer's inflated price for a $100 antenna.
I have lived and worked in the local area since 1982, providing quality service and antennas at an affordable and realistic price, that's why so many past customers recommend me to their friends because I don't rip people off with ridiculous prices. If I can save you money by using an alternative antenna I will - as long as it does not compromise on the quality of your reception.
Don't be sucked in with warranties of 10 - 25 years. Ask yourself if the company will still be around in 25 years to honour the warranty. Franchises and Franchisees come and go constantly (the Franchisees when they realise it is the franchise company making all the money), and then suddenly the Franchise Company gets into some financial difficulty (like one I know of) and it just folds up. What good is your warranty now? Who is going to honour it if there is no company and the guy who installed it isn't interested or can't be contacted? Apart from the change from analogue phones to digital, my number hasn't changed in 40 years. Does that sound like I might be reliable and offer VALUE for your hard-earned dollar?? You don't stay in business for 40 years by ripping off the customer.
Do yourself (and me) a favour... if you need your TV Antenna replaced, want fast, reliable service from a local who knows the area (having lived here for 40 years) and want an honest and affordable price, DON'T CALL A FRANCHISE or one of the BIG COMPANIES with flashy ads and likewise high prices, and employees who sometimes don't give a damn. Call me and deal directly with the owner of the business - no employees, no fancy ads and no high prices and I will still be here to honour your warranty in the unlikely event you need it. THE BUCK STOPS WITH ME.
Many years ago, Mr Antenna used to have flashy ads on TV claiming they offered TV ANTENNAS FULLY INSTALLED from ONLY $99. Most people either didn't hear or see the word FROM. When the installer, who had paid $35,000 for his franchise, giving him the right to do antennas ONLY in a specified area, turned up, the price suddenly escalated astronomically because of various unforeseen reasons. On top of the franchise cost, he had to pay a fee for every lead whether he got the job or not. Now tell me how could you make money at $99? You couldn't, as it would not even cover his antenna and other materials let alone allow him to make any profit. But such were the things that sucked people in because they didn't know any different. Most people were convinced that they needed a different, more expensive, antenna because of their area or some other reason and simply accepted the NEW price without question. Back then, I STILL beat their quoted prices (not the $99 BS).

BTW - I currently have a range of economy digital antennas (no, not rubbish ones) to replace your old one FROM $190 including fitting (straight swap-over only, low-set houses) and 12 months warranty. I defy you to get a cheaper GENUINE price. If you can, I'll beat it on any of my antennas.

Who likes problems that are frustratingly impossible to solve?

I hate them and I love them. Oh yes, they really PI$$ me off when everything I do to solve them results in another DEAD END! But at the same time, I love them because they keep my brain active.

This week's problem surrounds a Bluetooth device to send the TV Audio direct to the customer's hearing aids. Sounds simple enough - plug it into the USB socket for power, plug the audio jack into the audio output, and Bob's yer Uncle... right? WRONG!! The damned thing doesn't want to work. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!

OK, WHY doesn't it work? I spent 2 hours or more trying to figure that out, even taking the elderly customer and her device back to the nearby AMPLIPHON shop where she got it. The consultant said (and I do believe her) that she plugged it into an audio source there and it transmits to the hearing aids just fine... So, back to the customer's home and plug it back into the TV, and... nope, it STILL doesn't work. What the hell is wrong? I have no idea. I rang the store back and advised the consultant of the fact it STILL does not work for the customer. AMPLIPHON said to ring the distributors...They weren't much help, only saying it's AMPLIPHON's problem because they sold it. Why is it that nobody wants to know about problems with the stuff they sell or distribute? Where is there customer service? Obviously doesn't exist even though they claim to have a Custome Service Dept., they just weren't interested because it wasn't purchased directly from them.
After trying both the optical and analog audio outputs on the TV and the optical output on the new FOXTEL box, I had to admit defeat. There was no way this damned thing was going to work - but WHY?
I had to leave the customer (who has promised to appraise me of the solution - if they find one) to pursue AMPLIPHON to make it work. I did everything (3 things) the instruction manual says but to no avail. There's one of those bloody GREMLINS lurking somewhere.

I don't know what the hell Facebook has done with all my posts - they have just disappeared into thin air.

In case anyone thought I too had disappeared into thin air, I can assure you I am here, living and breathing as usual.

Job 2 - my first customer's brother who lives almost right on top of the hill in Mimi Ct. Mt. Warren Park.

The customer complained that quite often he experienced interference with his TV pictures and believed he probably needed a new antenna... checking and a signal test proved that to be correct.

The antenna itself was not the major cause of his problems, though it did have rusty connections, it was several houses farther up the hill (one was a double-story house) that were in the direct line of the incoming TV signal from Brisbane, and each had a metal roof that was once again deflecting the signal and causing it to drop out occasionally.

Solution: Replace the old Brisbane antenna with one for the Ormeau translator just a few km away which could be seen from the customer's front yard.

Having changed the antenna and aligned it the increase in signal levels was about 10-fold and 100% perfect on every channel. All that was left to do now was retune the TV to the new transmitter channels. Another very happy customer.
