✨ As we close this year’s study, People of the Promise: Exile and Return, we look back with gratitude for all God has taught us through His Word.

We leave this study not just full of facts, but changed by the God we have encountered throughout its pages. May His faithfulness inspire our trust, His sovereignty strengthen our faith, and His compassion shape how we live each day.✨

This week’s Bible Story for BSF Kids comes from 𝟏 𝐒𝐚𝐦𝐮𝐞𝐥 𝟑, 𝐋𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐁𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐌𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝.

The Bible tells us about a boy named Samuel who lived in God’s house, a big tent back then. Eli lived there too and took care of Samuel. One night Samuel was asleep in his bed, and Eli was asleep in his. It was dark and quiet. Suddenly a voice said, “Samuel.”

Samuel thought Eli had called him. He ran to Eli and said, “Here I am; you called me.” But Eli said he had not called and sent Samuel back to bed.

The voice called again. Samuel ran to Eli, but Eli said he had not called. Samuel did not know God’s voice. When the voice called a third time, Samuel went to Eli again. This time Eli understood God was calling the boy. 𝐆𝐨𝐝 𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐬 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐇𝐢𝐦. Eli told Samuel, “If you hear the voice again say, ‘Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening.’” Those words are written in 𝟏 𝐒𝐚𝐦𝐮𝐞𝐥 𝟑:𝟗. So Samuel went and lay down in his bed.

The Lord called as He had before, “Samuel, Samuel!” Samuel said, “𝐒𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐤, 𝐋𝐨𝐫𝐝, 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠.” God told Samuel important things and Samuel listened carefully.

The next morning, Samuel told Eli everything God had said. 𝐆𝐨𝐝 𝐡𝐚𝐬 𝐧𝐨 𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐬. That means God has all power and knows everything. Eli said, “He is the Lord; let him do what is good in his eyes.”

Samuel grew up to be a man who listened to God and did what God told him to do. 𝐆𝐨𝐝 𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐬 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐇𝐢𝐦. Listening means hearing God’s words and obeying them too, just like Samuel did.

We can listen to God when we read His words in the Bible. God helps us understand His words and do what He says. One reason God wants people to listen to Him is so they will hear about Jesus and believe in Him. All year in BSF, we have learned to listen to God. 𝐆𝐨𝐝 𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐬 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐇𝐢𝐦.

✨ Lesson 29: Looking Back and Moving Forward ✨

As we conclude our Old Testament study, we look back in awe at God’s faithfulness, sovereignty, and compassion toward His people.

From the return from exile to the promises of restoration, we have seen a God who remains faithful even when His people are not. Time and again, He pursued, disciplined, forgave, and restored His rebellious people according to His perfect plan.

This study has been more than a journey through history. It has revealed God’s unchanging character and challenged us to trust Him more deeply, obey Him more faithfully, and love Him more wholeheartedly.

May we move forward not simply with greater knowledge, but with transformed hearts—confident in God’s faithfulness, surrendered to His sovereignty, and grateful for His compassion.

✨ Lesson 28: God’s Final Words to Israel ✨
📖 Malachi 1–4

Through the prophet Malachi, God reminded His people of a truth they had forgotten — “I have loved you,” says the Lord. Yet Israel questioned His love and turned away from wholehearted worship.

God lovingly rebuked both the priests and the people for their spiritual apathy, compromised worship, and unfaithfulness. But even in correction, we see His mercy and covenant love shining through.

Malachi also points us to God’s greatest expression of love — Jesus Christ ✝️

The promised Messiah who came to save His people, and the King who will return again in glory and righteousness.

May we examine our hearts, return to wholehearted worship, and live with hopeful expectation of Christ’s return. ❤️

This week’s Bible Story for BSF Kids comes from 𝐌𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢 𝟏-𝟒, 𝐋𝐮𝐤𝐞 𝟑:𝟏-𝟏𝟖, 𝐆𝐨𝐝’𝐬 𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐈𝐬𝐫𝐚𝐞𝐥.

God loves you very much! Sadly, some people do not believe God loves them. People forget about God. This makes God sad. God wants everyone to know His great love.

Long ago, God sent the prophet Malachi to remind His people of His love. “‘𝐈 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮,’ 𝐬𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐋𝐨𝐫𝐝” in 𝐌𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢 𝟏:𝟐. But God’s people asked Him, “How have you loved us?” They had forgotten all the ways He had taken care of them and kept His promises, and they had stopped obeying Him.

𝐆𝐨𝐝 𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞. God did not stop loving His people even when they stopped obeying. He sent the prophet Malachi with a promise: God would make everything right again. God would send His Son, Jesus, and show His love for people through Jesus. Because 𝐆𝐨𝐝 𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞, He also promised to send a special messenger to get the people ready for Jesus to come. God always keeps His promises and 𝐆𝐨𝐝 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐰𝐬 𝐇𝐢𝐬 𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞.

Because 𝐆𝐨𝐝 𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞, He sent John the Baptist to tell people Jesus was coming. John told the people to ask God to forgive them. He told the people to love and obey God. John knew God was going to keep His promise to send His Son to save the people from their sin.

Some people thought John might be God’s Son but John said, “No! When He comes, you will find out He is much greater than I.”

Because 𝐆𝐨𝐝 𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞, He sent His Son, Jesus, at just the right time. 𝐆𝐨𝐝 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐰𝐬 𝐇𝐢𝐬 𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞., and Jesus is the best way God shows people His love. Jesus came to save people from their sin and make them right with God. One day Jesus will come back to make everything right, just as God promised the prophet Malachi. 𝐆𝐨𝐝 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐰𝐬 𝐇𝐢𝐬 𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞.

Lesson 27: Dedication & Renewal ✨
📖 Nehemiah 11–13

After rebuilding Jerusalem’s walls, Nehemiah led the people in renewing their commitment to God through worship, obedience, and holiness.
🔹 The city was strengthened
🔹 Worship was restored
🔹 The wall was dedicated with joy and praise
🔹 Spiritual reforms called the people back to faithfulness

🎯 Aim: Devotion to God requires dedicating every aspect of life to Him.

Even after great victories, God’s people still needed continual renewal. True dedication is not just building something for God — it’s living faithfully for Him every day.

This week’s Bible Story for BSF Kids comes from 𝐍𝐞𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐚𝐡 𝟏𝟐:𝟐𝟕-𝟒𝟑, 𝐃𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐑𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐰𝐚𝐥.

It was time to thank God for helping the people build the wall around Jerusalem. Nehemiah brought the temple helpers to celebrate with songs of thanks and make music with cymbals and harps. Many singers and people came from all around Jerusalem to celebrate and offer the wall as a gift to God.

The priests and temple helpers worked to honor God by cleaning their clothes and taking baths. They got the people, the gates and the wall ready to honor God. To honor means to show someone they are special and important. 𝐆𝐨𝐝’𝐬 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐭𝐨 𝐡𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐫 𝐇𝐢𝐦.

Nehemiah told the leaders and singers to go up on the top of the wall in two groups. Priests with trumpets went up too. The singers sang, the trumpets blew and everyone walked on the wall. Nehemiah led one group one way around the wall. Ezra, the teacher, led the other group the other way. All the time there was singing and praise to God. God had helped His people build the wall and it was time to say thank you and show Him honor. 𝐍𝐨 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐆𝐨𝐝. 𝐑𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝟒:𝟏𝟏 says, “𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐡𝐲, 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐋𝐨𝐫𝐝 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐆𝐨𝐝, 𝐭𝐨 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐠𝐥𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐡𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐫 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫.” 𝐆𝐨𝐝’𝐬 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐭𝐨 𝐡𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐫 𝐇𝐢𝐦.

When the two groups met, they went to the temple to worship. Worshipping God shows Him honor. The singers sang more songs of thanks and praise. The people offered gifts called sacrifices. People offer gifts to God, but God gives everything to people first. God is the best gift giver. Many years later, God would send the gift of Jesus. Jesus is God the Son. He came to take away our sins and give us new life. Jesus is the best gift of all.

The men, women and children of Jerusalem were happy because God, the best gift giver, made them very happy. The sounds of happiness and celebration in Jerusalem could be heard far away. 𝐆𝐨𝐝’𝐬 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐭𝐨 𝐡𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐫 𝐇𝐢𝐦.

Lesson 26: Confession & Obedience 📖

Through fasting, confession, and worship, God’s people humbled themselves before Him and renewed their commitment to walk in His ways. United together, they confessed their sins and sealed their agreement to honor the house of God.

True revival begins with honest repentance and wholehearted obedience. When we remember God’s faithfulness, we are moved to surrender our hearts again to Him. ✨

“Because of all this, we make a firm covenant in writing…” — Nehemiah 9:38

This week’s Bible Story for BSF Kids comes from 𝐍𝐞𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐚𝐡 𝟗-𝟏𝟎, 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐎𝐛𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞.

God’s people had finished celebrating the ways God had taken care of them. Ezra had read from God’s Word and the people listened carefully. 𝐆𝐨𝐝’𝐬 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐝 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐩𝐬 𝐇𝐢𝐬 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐨𝐛𝐞𝐲. After hearing God’s Word, God’s people wanted to talk to God about obeying Him.

The people wanted God to know they loved Him and were sorry for the times they had disobeyed Him. So all of the people put on rough cloth for clothes and put dust on their heads. They did not eat. This was to show they were sad because God’s Word showed they, their parents and grandparents had disobeyed God. They talked to God about the times they had sinned.

𝐆𝐨𝐝’𝐬 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐝 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐩𝐬 𝐇𝐢𝐬 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐨𝐛𝐞𝐲, but God’s people had forgotten God’s Word. They had forgotten all the good things God had done for them. Bad things had happened because the people had disobeyed God. But God did not forget His people and helped His people. Hearing God’s Word helped the people in Jerusalem remember God’s kindness. Hearing God’s Word helped God’s people remember God always keeps His promises. Hearing God’s Word helped God’s people tell Him they were sorry for their sins. God’s Word helped God’s people ask for forgiveness.

𝐍𝐞𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐚𝐡 𝟗:𝟑𝟏 says, “𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐚 𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐢𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐆𝐨𝐝.” 𝐆𝐨𝐝 𝐢𝐬 𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐨𝐛𝐞𝐲 𝐇𝐢𝐦. God’s Word tells us that every person disobeys God. But God was kind and sent His Son, Jesus, to help us. Jesus died on the cross and came alive again so we could be forgiven of our sin.

After God’s people asked for forgiveness, they promised to obey God. The mothers and fathers and grandmothers and grandfathers and boys and girls all promised to do the good things God’s Word told them to do. God’s people went home happy because 𝐆𝐨𝐝’𝐬 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐝 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐩𝐬 𝐇𝐢𝐬 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐨𝐛𝐞𝐲.

Lesson 25: Nehemiah 6:15–8:18

The wall was completed—what seemed impossible became reality by God’s hand.

Then the people gathered to hear God’s Word. They listened, were convicted, and responded with both repentance and great joy.

“The joy of the Lord is your strength.”
