Yes, we did beach baptisms in May in southern Tasmania.
Yes, we breed 'em tough down here.
And yes, we (well, Dave) forgot in our planning that it would be dark by 5:30pm.... but who doesn't love a dark, cold baptism or 4 at the beach!

It was so good to celebrate 5 people publicly declaring and affirming their faith in Jesus through baptism and confirmation. And to do it on Pentecost Sunday was particularly special, recognising that the Holy Spirit is still transforming lives through the power of the gospel in our community in 2026.

Dave preached on 'The Endurance of the Spirit', which was a reminder to those being baptised and confirmed that this doesn't guarantee an easy or happy life from here on out, but it does promise them God will be with them every day of their life, and into eternity. THIS SUNDAY we are holding a Baptism and Confirmation service!
We are so looking forward to seeing some members of our church affirm their faith in the risen Jesus.

Please be praying for them this week as they prepare for it, and if you're local, you're welcome to come along and check out our service, and support them in this on wonderful occasion.

Service begins at 4pm @ Blue Lagoon Camp

Now we're into the nitty-gritty of spiritual gifts!
Once we discover how God has uniquely gifted us, we 'should use whatever gift you have received to serve others'.

This week Stephen preached on what the gifts are and invited us to consider what our church might look like if we did as the apostle Peter encourages us to. You can listen to the full sermon here: https://open.spotify.com/episode/66BJqRHpp6t47WP7t3D7iB?si=2bb4106daa634558

What does it mean that the gifts are 'of the Spirit'?
Why is there so much mystery around them?
Why are they called 'the gifts of the Spirit' and not 'the gifts of the Son or Father'?

We're two weeks into our series on The Gifts of the Spirit, and already we're having to tackle some big questions! This week in our service we delved into 'The Intention of the Gifts', and what we can learn about the gifts by Who they are given by.

We love Mums!

And we love celebrating them for everything they do and have done, but reminding them that their worth and value is not in what they do but in who God has made them to be.

Yesterday our kids were able to hand out some beautiful little dried posies and thank the women in the church for being not only excellent biological Mums for many of their kids, but also for being great spiritual Mums and Grandmas to everyone in the church.

If, by some miracle, you happen to get a Roman Catholic, Presbyterian, Pentecostal, Atheist, and New Age Spiritualist in a room together, what is one thing that they could all disagree on?
The Holy Spirit, probably.

Well, that was the topic up for discussion in Sunday's sermon, as we began our 5-week series looking at the Gifts of the Spirit. No doubt, there was some disagreement, but hopefully there was also much learning!

Dave preached an introductory message on 'Rediscovering the Missing Middle', which you can listen to here:https://open.spotify.com/episode/3vTlCgpCYtdJt8LYUuQsUQ?si=406cee94725f4c57

Real Christians cultivate an environment in their lives, and in their churches, where truth can thrive.

That was the take home message from Dave in the sermon on 3 John, which concludes our 'Real Christianity' series in the John's trilogy! You can hear all the sermons, including this one, here: https://open.spotify.com/show/4VlCI2buovFge1ycLnJFWN?si=852b21bef2e14430

"But wait, doesn't Jesus want us to love and welcome everybody?"

In the small letter of 2 John, John doesn't mince his words. He knows the reality of something that many of us overlook, and that is that God has an opponent, his name is Satan, his weapon of choice is deception and lies, and his full-time job is to deceive, distract, and destroy you, and all who want to find and follow Jesus.

One commentator writes that John's gospel is to written help people become Christians, and his letters are written to help people stay Christians.

John is writing to churches who are facing a threat of false teachers who are denying that Jesus is God! So John equips them with the knowledge to discern between real Christianity and false Christianity. And his letters have the dual function of not only helping them and us to discern the fake teachings 'out there', but also testing the authenticity of our own hearts and lives.

There's no sermon podcast this week, but will be recorded next Sunday at Sorell and posted next week.

Have you ever been in an emotional state that can be described as being 'afraid yet filled with joy'?

Local bodyboarder Callum Wells (pictured) says that's how he'd describe surfing/surviving Shipstern's Bluff, at the bottom of the Tasman Peninsula.

And that's how Matthew's gospel describes how the women felt after coming face-to-face with an angel and an empty tomb!

But that emotion is contrasted with the emotion of the guards who also encountered the angel and the empty tomb, Matthew says they were "so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men."

On Easter Sunday, Dave preached about how we can experience God's glory with joy and not fear, now and on the day of Christ's return. To listen to the sermon, click here: https://open.spotify.com/episode/0CTCtSQfneCJf56eB28RmP?si=52398469abd04494
