Jesus said to his disciples, "What do you think? If a shepherd has a hundred sheep and one of them has gone astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine on the mountains and go in search of the one that went astray? And if he finds it, truly I tell you, he rejoices over it more than over the ninety-nine that never went astray."
Matthew 18:12-13

Jesus challenges us to address conflict with a genuine desire for reconciliation and restoration... but what if we or the person or people we are in conflict with don't desire reconciliation or restoration?

1 September marks the beginning of the Season of Creation and is observed by many Christians as Creation Day, or the Feast of Creation in Christ.

The celebration has ancient roots. Since the seventh century, 1 September has been associated with the creation of the world in the Byzantine Christian tradition and marks the beginning of its liturgical year.

In 2026, the Feast of Creation in Christ was officially added to the Revised Common Lectionary. It may be celebrated on 1 September or the first Sunday in September, which falls on 6 September this year. The Feast invites Christians to celebrate God as Creator and reflect on the mystery of creation through Christ.

What does Jesus mean when he tells his disciples that they must deny themselves and pick up their cross and follow him?

Eugene Peterson’s translation is helpful:
“Anyone who intends to come with me has to let me lead. You’re not in the driver’s seat; I am. Don’t run from suffering; embrace it. Follow me and I’ll show you how. Self-help is no help at all. Self-sacrifice is the way, my way, to finding yourself, your true self. What kind of deal is it to get everything you want but lose yourself? What could you ever trade your soul for?”
Matthew 16:24-26 MSG
