Another woman at the Anglican synod in Melbourne this week was Bishop Sophie from Adelaide diocese 🎉

Annabel Crabb said of Sophie on her consecration two years ago:

"Very pleased and proud to see my friend Sophie Relf-Christopher consecrated on Thursday as Australia’s, I think, second youngest Bishop in the Anglican Church. I don’t like the thing that caused me and my family to meet Sophie at St Jude's, Brighton a couple of years back but it’s wonderful anywhere to find a person of her compassion, kindness, wisdom and deep good humour. Lucky, lucky Adelaide Diocese to have her. Truly a shepherd of humans, a supporter of the weak, a binder of the broken, a restorer of the outcast. Zero ego, zero prejudice, 💯 love. That’s her in the middle, you can’t miss her! What a corporate photo, hey."

The Deans from across Australia all met in Sale recently. Scan through the images and you'll see George Hemmings was there from the St Paul's Anglican Cathedral Bendigo. Not as tall as usual and possible crouching a bit.

Our prayers have been answered and we look forward to welcoming Fr Bryn and his wife, Jennifer to Christ Church Anglican Parish, Daylesford. We hope they will be able to visit us prior to formally joining the Parish in October.
We welcome this opportunity to share with our fellow parish in Castlemaine and workout the process and arrangements for same.

Last Saturday's concert was Maestro Jakob Lindberg’s Lute recital in Stanbridge Hall. It was truly delightful in our beautiful intimate setting. The concert celebrated John Dowland, acclaimed renaissance composer, this year being the 400th anniversary of his death. Rosemary Hodgson, Lutenist, has already commented on the deep listening audience. The Maestro himself identified the Stanbridge Hall as one of the nicest halls he has played in and this being his second concert in the hall. Or course he has performed all over the world too. Acclaimed Harpsichordist Ann Morgan comparing other venues described them as “nowhere as good as the acoustic for yesterday's concert.”

The promise of Jakob’s interpretation of Dowland’s music, capturing the emotional depth of human emotions in his compositions, was certainly realised. And yes we heard the melancholic pavans and joyous galliards. This was precious, gentle music to soothe our souls and envy the Tudor courts who for them this was daily fare.

Thank you to Jakob Lindberg and Rosemary Hodgson for this wonderful addition to our Christ Church Concerts 2026 Series.

A truly delightful concert yesterday with Stanbridge Hall looking its finest with Denise Robinson Autumn floral additions. So good to welcome Maestro Jakob Lindberg back again with John Dowland's beautiful and gentle Lute music to soothe our souls. Thank you to he and Rosemary Hodgson, Director of the Melbourne International Lute festival for making this possible. Christ Church Concerts celebrating its fifth successful year.
